Canon Law 2335 no longer automatically bars a Catholic from masonic groups unless that group is known to be hostile to the Church, in which case the Catholic is excommunicated. Bishops of England and Wales clarify a Catholics' standing with Freemasonry membership, anticipating changes to Canon Law. The catholic wishing to join a masonic group should contact his Bishop.
Priest, religious and members of Secular institutions are still forbidden to accept membership of the Masonic Order or similar organisation.

Tuesday: to see Cardinal Hume re future (Fr Peter is on loan to RCDEA from Westminster)
Latin document
"Reply of the Holy Father to the Address presented to his Holiness by the Priests of England and Scotland, on the Fiftieth Anniversary of his First Mass." Addressed to Archbishop Henry Manning in Westminster
Catholic Association and herself are both unaware of a Shrine at King's Lynn. Fr Gray had provided details and Lady Gurney[?] had written that the priest from King's Lynn and 60 pilgrims had gone to the abbey ruins last summer. She thought it was a similar situation with that at Westminster Abbey where many Catholics go on the feast of St Edward. Hopes that the bishop will consider renewing greater devotion to Our Lady of Walsingham.
Halse, Winnefred MissFr David Paul will be in touch to talk about the Society of the Holy Cross - some members of which have been ordained into the Roman Catholic church - so that they have formed a Roman International Province. Copies of correspondence enclosed.
Brown, Ralph Rev (1931-2014)Finance Office has revisited the arrangement and on the basis of a change in Catholic population since 1976 the Diocese of East Anglia's contribution should be 13% instead of 7%.. But with two other Diocese now taking part the rate is 8.5% (i.e. the proportion of all 4 dioceses' populations).
Archbishop's OfficeWork undertaken by the Westminster Metropolitan Tribunal for East Anglia - fee is £6572.53 for year ending 31Decenber 1982. The withdrawal of Brentwood and Northampton means Westminster bears 93% i.e. £93,893.33
Archbishop's Office[an insert to the pastoral letter]
Asks that the pastoral letter is not copied nor passed to others because the public press makes unfair use of what is published. Cardinal intends to take possession of the See at St George's on 6 December at 11am - invitation extended.
