Advisory note to the Bishop. Visited Fr Flynn and found him very much down after the "flu". Doctor suggests he gets away for a short rest.

Writing from Lyndon. Fr Flint visited canon Eeles and found him in bed but comfortable. He may be allowed out of bed by the end of the week. Does not feel there needs to be any anxiety about the Canon. A catholic nurse is tending to him. His doctor (Dr Sexton) is a catholic.

Requests a meeting with the Bishop in Hunstanton so that the Bishop can speak to Fr Flynn's doctor. Fr Flynn's health is not improving.

The honest answer to the direct question will neither be a "yes" or a "no". This is why he asked for a personal meeting in Hunstanton and a discussion with the doctor. Long time since had any spirits. Only touched altar wine. Alcohol was a danger in the past - the Bishop has little experience of mission work - Hunstanton is not an easy post. Fr Flynn considers he made a fatal mistake in not seeing the Bishop much earlier. The doctor will be sending a report under separate cover.

The drainage system work will start soon. The council is making up Sandringham Road and will place a lamp outside the church (at no cost to us!). Fr Flynn has secured a promise for a Catholic burial ground in the new cemetery - a consecration will be required when they get started on that.
P.s. Fr Flynn had heard that the Canon had got as close as Lynn and suggests next time he comes a bit closer as there is always a room available.

Whilst Fr Stokes says he coming to Norwich to see the bishop - his real reason is to come to Norwich - where he will renew the difficulties caused by his departure. Fr Freeland has had to be diplomatic with Fr Stokes when he has turned up, uninvited. "..he must be made to cease from interfering in any way in matters to do with my Parish, or I must give the parish up. The latter alternative is a consummation which I pray for every day may soon happen; for St John's Norwich is a place and a position I am heartily sick of."

Nobody about as the works is off for 10 days and all have gone on holiday. Leaving Wellingborough for Hunstanton and will stay for a few days as full of visitors who come for daily mass. Will be discrete in sounding people out so as not to give away his real objective. If Fr Flynn is at home then why no notice posted on the church door? He thinks something is not right and will see the Bishop when he leaves. Fr Hyde can stay till he returns [at Wellingborough?]

Personal Loan from the Finance Board; will increase insurance policy from £75 to £100; Canon Tonks to fill in the form and send to Century Insurance in Ipswich. Not at all well. Lady Winefride has invited him to stay - so he will go one Sunday in Lent. Can the Poor Mission Fund do something for Hunstanton. "I have had a rotten time & am likely to while the war lasts & even afterwards for a time while people recover the strain on their resources."

Bishop to arrive at Walsingham on Aug 17 and stay until 20th. Been in contact with Mr Hyes, a local solicitor, regarding a water pipe and a Wells property.
