As instructed by the executors of the estate of the late Mr Francis Easto Banham, a draft Declaration of Trust enclosed [not present] for the £1000 bequeathed as an Endowment Fund for St Benet's Beccles.

The notes contain the proposals for the trustees for the Banham £1000 endowment:

1. The Bishop of Northampton is always a trustee
2. The Abbot of Downside (or an OSB appointee) is the second for as long as the Beccles remains a Benedictine mission - goes to Northampton Diocese if that ceases
3. A lay trustee from Beccles congregation in consultation with the Beccles' rector and Bishop of Northampton.
   Write to RE Banham, the Abbot of Downside to this effect.

To Dersingham Trustee (Stuart Grant): usual for the Bishop to decide on dedication. Must admit to being puzzled by the large vote for Sts Peter and Paul.

Apoligise for the delay in replying - have been in Rome, etc. Need to consult with turstees - normally disinclined unless a property is freehold. Can imaging the disappointment of the Anglican community.

Writing to Dersingham Trustees; Fr Flynn is apparently in good shape but he is 76 and they will have to take responsibility for his welfare. Bishop will be away for a Low Week Conference and then off to Geneva - not back until 12 May.

Financial Management of Walsingham: he considers that things are working pretty well at the moment - should there be a need for significant change then thought and discussion will ensue. The Trust acts well for Walsingham and that is how it should stay.

Bishop Clark to Vicar General, Mgr James Dunn, Liverpool Diocese). The diocese could not make provision for this "unnecessary" church and the trustees would have to find a priest to staff it. A private enterprise which has been costly in time to ensure it will eventually come under the Diocesan Trust, etc. Not advisable to include in your Ad Clerum.

Dersingham Trustee (Stuart Grant) that the church should be called "St Cecilia's" as a fitting tribute to Miss Insley who played the organ at Hunstanton for many years.

Dersingham Trustee (Stuart Grant): Since Fr Flynn's death the house has been empty. Trustees consider now a good time to sell - will rent another if successful in finding another priest. As Miss Insley's will is framed the Bishop's permission is required to proceed with a sale.

Stuart Grant: Dersingham group have been consulted, they would like to get Fr Flynn to Dersingham. What needs to be done next? Is the Bishop to take the lead or should they do it?

The Meryemana appeal for an ecumenical centre and restoration of a shrine is a project which Dr Heley considers would benefit form the patronage of Cardinal Hume.

Bishop Dennis having already written to Rev Gathercole about the Meryemana objectives. There is a need for denominational representatives on the steering committee.

Having received a call from Fr Pat Brown in response to his letter to the Cardinal regarding the September pilgrimage. The Cardinal is not happy with calling it the "Cardinal's Pilgrimage" he thinks it should be more Marian related. Fr Allen puts forward suggestions and asks can we use the Dowry of Mary tradition - "The Dowry Pilgrimage"?
Serious thought required before the decision is taken on the role of the Walsingham Trust (Trustees being Michael Ward, the Bishop and Fr Allen). Separation of finances from the Diocese (which Matt Duffin did not like) needs to be clearer since some leave money, etc. to the Shrine but NOT to the Diocese. In essence it matters little since the Bishop of East Anglia is in charge, but to consider the Shrine as a Parish?
