              Part of Walsingham Shrine

Does not rule out the twinning idea but emphasises that Walsingham is the National Shrine. No decision until the Shrine Council is consulted and perhaps the Hierarchy Meeting. It is an excellent idea but the Bishop has reservations unconnected with a shrine in the Holy Land.

              Part of Walsingham Shrine

Writing to the Administrator of the Shrine at Ain Karim [alternative spellings: Ein Kerim, Ein Karim, etc] about the approach by the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre in England suggesting that the Shrine in Israel be twinned with that of Our Lady of Walsingham. Provides a brief history of the Shrine in Walsingham and encloses two booklets on it. Asks for his response to the suggestion.

              Part of Walsingham Shrine

The president of KHS Eastern Section (Knights of the Holy Sepulchre), Lt. Col. Philp, writes to say that the Lieutenant has given permission to twin (Ecclesiastically) Our Lady of Walsingham with Our Lady of Palestine at Ein Karim. Fr Birch agrees with the idea but the writes feels that the Bishop, as their Lord Provost, should have right of veto.

              Part of Walsingham Shrine

President, Lt Col Philp writes to Bishop and Lord Prior (KHS, Eastern Section):
"Yesterday you expressed some doubt about our idea of twinning with Our Lady of Palestine as it was connected with John the Baptist. Our idea was it should be connected with the Visitation and Elizabeth's house where the Magnificat was originated. I hope this may alter your doubts, as it is in the same village as St John the Baptist."
