"Around 60 altar servers attended the event, along with family and supporters. The celebration coincided with the ninth
anniversary of the ordination of Bishon Alan Hopes as bishop of East Anglia. Fr Simon Davies from the Cathedral led the altar servers in a round of applause in appreciation of Bishop Alan's service to the diocese." Story continues.

"...Rome suggests that, as a general rule, girls should not be admitted to serving, and, until a significant change takes place, I am unwilling to make an official directive."

Will be there on 23rd March to inaugurate the Guild. Hopes it will do much good in spreading the Faith in Suffolk (and East Anglia) where Fr Davidson and Fr Mason have been doing such excellent pioneer work. What role is the Bishop to play? The sanctuary is a bit small for a Pontifical High Mass even if you could get the servers on a week day. We'll see what wonders you can manufacture out of the blue!

Request from Jonathan Salt to establish a branch of the Guild of St Stephen at St Peter and All Souls, Peterborough. First branch for both sexes in the Diocese. Rules of the Archconfraternity require that the Diocesan Bishop makes the request in writing to the Cardinal. The National Director (in Wembley) will arrange for the parchment to be written for the Cardinal's signature and approval.

Ruling on a mixed marriage issue - groom cannot sign to bring up the children in the Catholic faith. What are the Bishop's views on girls serving Mass? (Apparently Fr Little at Beccles allows it). Include a copy of a church history [not present] written by Fr Sloan; also has a letter by Fr Howarth about Canon Mason's last hours - but last page missing.
