Advice from the bishop requested in the case of a man who, whilst being a Protestant, wishes to leave a provision in his will to have masses said for him. He is about to have an operation in the Catholic Hospital in London and wants his matters in order beforehand. His mind would be greatly settled if masses could be said for him.

Robert Farr writes to the Pope asking for help to enable his wife and himself to be full members of the Catholic Church. He provides a detailed explanation of his circumstances from a young man being brought up as a son of a protestant verger, though being away in Burma during the war, to meeting his present wife and marrying her. Problems arise because he is divorced, protestant, married in a Registry Office: he may not become a Catholic; his wife is barred from receiving the sacraments. He wants to put this right. He has been taking advice from Fr Riley.
