Referring to the English Heritage letter to James Hall (IHCT). It is clear that additional work and drawings need ot be done - particularly on pew storage and toilets. ".. appalled at the time this has taken..." Suggest joint meeting with Dr Heley and Mr Mellamphy.
Includes his response to IHCT.
Meeting with Church Advisory Board for Redundant Churches, The Borough, IHCT and Meryemana Foundation - did not get the necessary assurances regarding pew removal. Borough Planning Officers - need a change of use if the vestry is to become a caretaker's flat - lists alterations which will attract need for Listed Building consent. Work (more than expected) done so far requires payment and a review of brief
Basil and David HatcherRequesting information on how the pews when removed are to be catalogued and stored
Basil and David HatcherIHCT have progressed work on the church until the grants ran out. Consequently some internal redecorating has not been done; although rewiring is complete. Need Meryemana input to progress application for Planning Consent
Basil and David HatcherDiscussed plans with Mr Mellamphy - only one disabled toilet required - plans acceptable. Stairway to bell-ringers floor impractical - will be excluded. Drawing enclosed for Vestry/Caretaker accommodation. Application to the Borough for Listed Building application for the Vestry, Toilets, Pew removal; and change of use for vestry to living accommodation. Mr Mellamphy is going away for a few weeks.
Basil and David HatcherSufficient work to enable the Vestry to be used for meetings. Need to agree the lease with IHCT before incurring too much cost. Ready to discuss with the planners but the proposals need the blessing of the IHCT and English Heritage. Look to the future and phase 2 or 3 if possible
Basil and David HatcherUse of redundant church, St Nicholas, by client, Meryemana Foundation. Planning application for change of use; Listed Building application (plans included); explanation of eight relevant factors
Basil and David HatcherBishop use's Mr Limentani's draft to write to Huntingdon DC to support Church of Sacred Heart of Jesus, St Ives, planning application ref: 99/0296 (see https://publicaccess.huntingdonshire.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=9900296FUL, accessed 1-4-2019)
Smith, Peter David Gordon Rev LLB JCD (1943-2020)Unless there has been a change in intended use for the building then the previous planning permission will stand. If there is a widening of uses then planning permission needs to be applied for.
Borough of King's LynnAccept budget increase to £1800. The "Vestry and Chapel" plans was your idea in discussion with Mr Mellamphy. Need to get started as people will only give when they see things happening. IHCT lease dependent on planning application within 3 months
Heley, Margaret Mary (Maire) Dr (1930-2020)Apologises for the delay in replying - due to Mr Mellamphy's continuing illness. Sets out the background to the hope for an Ecumenical Centre in St Nicholas Church. "Naively unaware of the obstacle race before us..." the project proceeded, funds raised, a launch event. Removal of pews a precursor for the project; with #52,000 raised it was a shock to receive your letter and realise the differences in vision for the use of St Nicholas. Invitation to meet and discuss.
Heley, Margaret Mary (Maire) Dr (1930-2020)Having now received paperwork from Sterrett & Blouet, the Chief Education Officer requests clarification on the size of school (in classrooms) and number of children to be catered for. Sets out approach for the application.
manuscript annotation: "I settled for a four class school now; reserving the right to make proposals for a nursery class in the future. We have already 100 children of Primary school age."
Andrew Derrick (EH) writing to James Hall (IHCT). Dept of Environment has asked for EH's input on this application. Borough Council should have informed EH but did not so the Dept has allowed EH to talk to IHCT direct. Mr Dodd's letter had a number of other amendments and clarifications, besides the pews, which have not been forthcoming. Have costed the platform covering the pews at about 40,000. The Redundant Churches board recommended to the Church Commissioners that the building was not being suitable for the Trust because of the difficulty in safeguarding the fittings under any alternative use. History has proven this to be the case. Suggest Meryemana use St Mary at Quay instead. Asks for clarification on a number of pints.
"English Heritage has invested a great deal of taxpayer's money in the fabric of St Nicholas' church, and we are anxious to ensure that the qualities that entitled it to grant aid are preserved and maintained. No other churchin Ipswich contains its wealth of internal fittings"
