Part of Our Lady and St Peter Parish, Aldeburgh

Forwarding the sketch plans and drawings for Aldeburgh Church design. Describes the church, Gothic with Round Tower (typical of Suffolk, with flints and plan roofing tiles). Chesham Bois church has similar floor area. Rough costing £1500 to £1600 a further £500 to complete Tower and porch. Fawcett Road is cramped and not suitable, but Fr Delaney has indicated The Terrace site, which is much better and allows room for future requirements.

Suggest instruct to go ahead and inform IHCT and Borough that you have done so on the basis of their letters. Need to meet you and Mr Mellamphy to finalise the brief so can start on the drawings

Part of St Michael the Archangel Parish, Huntingdon

Currently one parish in Huntingdon. Fr Grace has kept the accounts of St Michael and Oxmoor separate. Once repairs are made to St Michael's then Fr Grace will build up the monies for The Good Shepherd - the project must be sanctioned by the Bishop and the Finance Board. He cannot deal with Oxmoor on a personal basis - Fr Crowley is a member of a religious Order (the Damien Fathers) and not a permanent priest of the diocese. So it would be rash to build a permanent residence if the Society were to withdraw Fr Crowley and not replace him. But it is pastorally beneficial for Fr Crowley to be in Oxmoor. The Bishop will think more on this.

Would be sorry if Fr Crowley left Oxmoor; it is almost impossible to change Fr Grace's thinking. The fear is that if Fr Crowley leaves then Oxmoor may well lapse. Need Oxmoor congregation to identify the goals. Could see a slight enlargement to the hall to allow for a sanctuary area.

Fr Wilson and the bishop are not clear about the aim of the plan when it does not show the dining room and study being made into one. Ask the architect to produce a plan showing this. Despite the house being over 100 years old need to remember how much has already been spent and where the money comes from. This is absorbing so much of Huntingdon "savings". Will the church need major work?

Multi-topic letter: Struck through are: Ransom monies; Wilson (Geoffrey); Schools Commission meeting
Oxmoor section: Decision to be made on Oxmoor - to make it semi-autonomous; Liam Crowley ready financially to go at it but it would be "near-to-bone"; need a way through "the tortuous paths of parish priest brinkmanship". Intend, when time is right, to join Whittlesey and Ramsey, and, St Michael's and the Good Shepherd (but present incumbent not on wavelength).

Bishop was surprised that she did not get a letter thanking her for her service - as is the Bishop's custom. The projected ecumenical school would not have survived after the Anglians had "pulled out" of the scheme. Informed Fr Aelred of her protestation.
