Mr Sauvain - just received your letter. Any temporary accommodation must be approved by the Ministry and meet requirements; Managers' responsibility to provide. Cannot rely on dates from the Development Plan. Suggest the Managers push for a date and a school - there will be plenty of room on the Newlynn Estate when you are ready to proceed with your building.
Need to consider the needs of the children at the school before accepting more.

The letter outlines his ideas and plan for the Spiritual Development of Walsingham. It has taken time to produce mainly due to demonstrated perseverance and growth. The rich spirituality can only be lived by a Christian Community - not embodied in the buildings ... a simple life-style can be both satisfying and attractive ... not a prayer group ... a "base community" trying to live the Gospel.
The letter is to set things out clearly and to ask the Bishop's blessing.

Note of a telephone conversation with Miss Watts from NCC Education. County Plan will be sent to Mr Parkin, then need to arrange a meeting to discuss it. Plan for 150 in 1st school and 150 on Middle school. Adaption would be required so will invite Architect, Mr Waite, to attend.

Describing some details of, and a possible route for, the possible Papal visit to the National Shrine: space for helicopters (3 probably) to land; use of "Pope-mobile"; sight-lines for the crowds; potential for 200,000 to 500,000 people; visit to Anglican Shrine; Archbishop Rucie; positive ecumenical impact.

Plan for Bishop's approval. Fiance Board can discuss this later. The boilerhouse should be done now. 'The Ministry are prepared to allow a more elaborate Sanctuary if we pay for it - at least in Secondary Schools. Bit this "Store Room" sanctuary would perhaps be enough for the needs of a Mass Centre at Gaywood.'
pencilled annotation [Bishop Parker]: "Is it possible to have a second storey?"

Writing to Chief Education Officer for Norfolk. Hoping that work will be done under minor works programme. School Managers wish to plan for the future and to draw the plans for a seven-class school (for an estimate of 280 junior and infant pupils). Those coming from London will have at least 17% Roman Catholic, perhaps allowing for a two class entry to the school, having a 6 class school with a potential to expand to 8 class. As for an RC Secondary school ask to keep the situation under review.

With Sterret at the Ministry - they are likely to approved the adaptation of the presbytery at Beccles as a School. There are a few aspects which need addressing: Daylight in the Hall, Kitchen/Scullery space, paved playground. Need to update the sketch to show these adjustments.
The ESN [Educationally Sub-Normal - a contemporary term] pupil could be sent to Besford Court.

Unable to attend last week - business kept him away.
Advice over the approach the LEA would take to the school under the Development Plan. Note that Norfolk would be the last to achieve reorganisation. Buying a house may not be the answer as a refit as a school may take too long and be too costly. Need to seek the opinion of Mr A Sauvain and the Chief Education Officer.
When the HMI comes, have an informal talk about the circumstances of the school.
Bp Beck suggests allowing overcrowding in order to force the pace - but you know the local conditions best.

Minster is sanctioning the building project at Gaywood provided it is under £7,500. LEA will maintain this new building as part of the existing school. Payment strategy involves a grant and a loan. Proposal sketch plans will be sent to LEA and then onto the Ministry. Using the County Architect would be a good idea. Liaise with Mr Sauvain on this project.
School Managers control pupil admission - not the Headteacher - she may attend meetings but has no vote and is the servant of the Managers.

Bad policy to refuse admission as it is an argument for further state schools. Spelk to Mr Sauvain about support for a temporary classroom (on wheels). Need data for all children in, or coming into, the area. Modest "over-crowding" may be acceptable to pressure for additional building.
