Hopes drafts will be adequate for the final contracts. Diocese salary payments should cover all expenses. £5,000 for Director; £3,000 for others. Parish expenses remain a charge on the parish.
Will be writing shortly to discuss whether the society might take over Fakenham parish when it falls vacant, perhaps as a chapel of ease.

Still at a loss how to avoid hurt or misunderstanding by normal visitors or residents of Walsingham. Another venue rather than the Parish Church and to hold two separate Communions - speak to the Director of the Shrine. Your suggestion is a genuine and sincere. Suggest that you hold the liturgy in the Parish Church in Friday Market.

Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)An agreement between the RCDEA and Society of Mary (The Marist Fathers).
The society of Mary undertakes the pastoral care of the parish of Walsingham / Wells. One priest nominated by the Society; normal remuneration for priests in RCDEA.
Having received a call from Fr Pat Brown in response to his letter to the Cardinal regarding the September pilgrimage. The Cardinal is not happy with calling it the "Cardinal's Pilgrimage" he thinks it should be more Marian related. Fr Allen puts forward suggestions and asks can we use the Dowry of Mary tradition - "The Dowry Pilgrimage"?
Serious thought required before the decision is taken on the role of the Walsingham Trust (Trustees being Michael Ward, the Bishop and Fr Allen). Separation of finances from the Diocese (which Matt Duffin did not like) needs to be clearer since some leave money, etc. to the Shrine but NOT to the Diocese. In essence it matters little since the Bishop of East Anglia is in charge, but to consider the Shrine as a Parish?
In the absence of Fr Graystone, the Vicar Provincial, Father Michael O'Neill, asked that Fr Birch approach the Bishop for appointment as Parish Priest pro temp.
Since Fr John Murphy died there is a need to appoint another signatory (Fr Birch) for the Parish (Walsingham and Wells) Bank Account.
manuscript annotation: "(1) Appointment verbally given - 'temporary' (vicarius economus). (2) Requested three signatories for Bank Account."
"... the Diocese of East Anglia made a New Covenant with the poor with CAFOD at the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Walsingham in 1977. The Parish of Our Lady of the Annunciation is now making a similar Covenant to CAFOD with the following promise and commitment."

Confirming Fr Birch's appointment as "Priest-in-Charge" (Vicarius Economus) of the parish of Walsingham and Wells
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Contract between Society of Mary and the Diocese of East Anglia for the administration of the Shrine concludes on 6 December. New one needs negotiating or Marist Society withdraw. Bishop and Director greed that three priests needed in running the Shrine. Provides details of scope and work for each. Marist Sisters' role needs to be reviewed too. Changes in role and numbers over time needs to be reviewed. Lists some of the work done by Sacristan / Guestmistress / Office / Shrine Sister. Parish commitment in this should not be overlooked. Growing numbers of Catholics in the area plus the retired Parish priest has not been replaced. A deacon can do some but not all.
