Church has new heating being installed. Concern about influx of workers at Sizewell B (last time, for Sizewell A, this resulted in the construction of Leiston Church).

Given that the bishop has an appreciation of Fr Worswick's work, the Abbot presents him for a permanent appointment to Beccles as parish priest.

Abbot Ramsay: Need to provide resources for the missions - hence a need to move Fr Worswick from Beccles. Fr martin Campbell, currently at Little Malvern, will replace him.
manuscript annotation: "Extremely sorry! But will not embarrass you, only trusting that Beccles will not go to sleep again. Fr Worswick [illegible] her from sleep of Spiritual Starvation. I give faculties to Fr Campbell for when he comes, also for the Nuns. Fr Worswick [illegible] leave his faculties form behind, when Fr Campbell comes he can send it to me. Returned from Canberra, Australia, after heading up the Vatican delegation for VII Assembly of the World Council of Churches - chaotic but epic. Thanks the Cardinal for his leadership in the debate on the Gulf Crisis.
Francis Selman: happy for the Cardinal to see him (provides a short pen picture) - thought he had settled at Quidenham - but that is obviously not the case.
Fr Andrew Morley at Dersingham: Asks the Cardinal to withdraw him as he has caused offence and gone to the provincial press.

Thanks for the account of your stewardship - you are happy in Beccles, I think. Share some anxieties but not convinced of your conclusions. Off to Rome, November before can look in on you.

Apologises for his "silly joking" - no idea where he got the idea that Fr Arthur was "on the road to Massingham". Hopes Fr Arthur will be with us for a long time.

A considerable reorganisation of parishes and pastoral responsibilities in the area of Dereham and Swaffham. Downham Market will become part of the Swaffham parish with Fr Peter Marsh as its first parish priest; it may be re-established as a parish in the future. Fr Baker must be living on a pittance now that RAF Marham has its own chaplain. Providing him with an overview of intentions which will not happen until arrangements have been made for Fr Baker.

Hopes drafts will be adequate for the final contracts. Diocese salary payments should cover all expenses. £5,000 for Director; £3,000 for others. Parish expenses remain a charge on the parish.
Will be writing shortly to discuss whether the society might take over Fakenham parish when it falls vacant, perhaps as a chapel of ease.

Distressed to learn of Fr Arthur's withdraw from Burnham Market. Welcomes Fr Richmond back, Glad the Salvatorians are honouring the agreement for pastoral care of the parish.

Still at a loss how to avoid hurt or misunderstanding by normal visitors or residents of Walsingham. Another venue rather than the Parish Church and to hold two separate Communions - speak to the Director of the Shrine. Your suggestion is a genuine and sincere. Suggest that you hold the liturgy in the Parish Church in Friday Market.

Apologises for delay in responding. Tried to phone Fr Richmond to see if he had the actual map for the boundaries. Fr Hammond's letter gives the geographical data. Happy that the Salvatorians are working with us on this.
