Bishop disputes that the request for a Maundy Thursday Mass at Papworth is sufficiently cogent. He would not normally grant permission in response to this request. He expects that the church should be as full as for a Sunday. However, since no time for a reply he says it is Fr Kerby's judgement on whether to go ahead or "bus" them to St Ives.

Unable to attend Papworth Celebration - clashes with postponed Diocesan Council. (16 June 1932). Has received several letters (unanswered as yet) which indicate the parishioners do not find his ways as their ways. Do not take refuge in being "old-fashioned"; say Mass more warmly, more slowly, less exclusively "ex opera operato"? Grateful for your pastoral care and uninterrupted visiting.

Bishop writes to Fr Stephen Doupe saying that there is little money for a new Church at Papworth. Not having seen the existing chapel he makes assumptions and provides a lengthy set of suggestions regarding the design and restructuring of the chapel - somewhat similar to that at Walsingham which cost far less than £2000. Porch stays; WC converted with present pipe. Herewith a photo of Walsingham church. The Bishop will be in Cambridge for December 9 to 12th. The next Finance Board meeting is on 24th November perhaps Fr Doupe could provide descriptions or a scale drawing?
Pencilled notes regarding plot size and church size.

Re 50th anniversary of Papworth Church, 18 June 1982 is out for the Bishop but perhaps the Chancellor can stand in for him?

First draft of extension for St Francis of Assisi in Papworth Everard. Fr Doupe likes it; architect needs approval before producing detailed plans and specification. Porch rather larger than originally envisaged in response to architect pointing out the extension design only allowed for a four foot wide entrance - not very imposing. SAE enclosed for return of plan.

Fr Kerby acknowledges the Bishop's permission to give a non-Catholic bride Holy Communion. However, her appreciation is that this is a solemn act but that the bread remains bread and is representative. In the light of this Fr Kerby says that the bride is content to receive "holy communion" from her father (a vicar) whilst the bridegroom receives Holy Communion from Fr Kerby. He awaits the Bishop's decision.
On the Bishop's Visitation at the end of May, will he confirm a few youngsters at Papworth and Willingham as well as at St Ives? It would be an encouragement to both small congregations.

Just discovered that it is 50th Anniversary of first Mass at Papworth Church (16 June 1932). Would the Bishop come and say Mass there? Thanks the Bishop for copy of his reply to Mrs Griesen, haven't spoken to her as yet. Considers that people find him to be old fashioned but tries to be adaptable. Things going smoothly, nearly finished visiting all in St Ives, will start in villages.

Fr Nesden nominating 3 parishioners for the Bene Merenti Medal: Mrs Dorothy Barton (St Ives) , Mr Edward Dorney (St Ives), Mr Bernard Rodgers (Papworth). All have given loyal service for at least 25 years and still doing so.
This is the 75th Anniversary of the opening of this church and presumably the foundation of the parish but there do not appear to be any records. Perhaps the Bishop would take this into account on his visitation on weekend of 24th April. Fr Nesden would like a concelebrated Mass with Deanery clergy and the Mayor attending.
