"Hamish and the gang are back - after 30 years away from the music scene! In 1991 Hamish MacQueen, now the director of the East Anglian Diocesan Youth Service, founded a full-time Catholic rock band called Revelation, with the aim of sharing the Gospel message through music. They toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe. For a time, they were based in Hamish's mum's bungalow in North Walsham, and they played several gigs in East Anglia." Story continues

Acknowledges that Fr Birch is disappointed and irritated, and, the correction to his history. However, there are [outlined] sensitivities in ecumenism, which the bishop as a seasoned ecumenist is aware of, but he cannot agreed to "institutionalise this in the way you wished". Need to trust one another and find joy in that.
Bishop has drafted a preliminary paper for the Standing Committee of the Episcopal Conference (who decide on the agenda for the Low Week Conference)
p.s. Would Fr Birch serve on the Liturgical Commission's Music Committee?

Wants to re-direct the Sunday Liturgy in to the right channel. Clive may have mentioned that the Diocesan Liturgy Commission would be involved in the three major pilgrimages: East Anglia Diocesan, the Sick and the National. The decisions remain with Fr Allen but they are an "ex natura" advisory group. Bishop says he has suffered misery over the music. He prefers responsorial with the congregation involved as far as possible. (so resist attempts by all small choirs trying to muscle in). Fr Walsh can help with the music. There are other points but they can wait. Fr Tony Rogers is the Chair of the Diocesan Liturgy Commission and PP at St George's Norwich. Fr Gary Dowsey is my secretary.

Fr EH Stokes writes about accepting into the church “the late Canon’s” converts. He requests permission to use a ticket to attend the Ransom Pilgrimage in Rome – if so he will need supply cover. Requests a number of expositions during the year. Is having issues with the composition of the choir – there is some musical talent n the ladies – but he’d never use them except as a last resort. Two old men he values but their musical preferences do not match his. Has made changes to the music being used in the church.
Mrs Ridsdale, 68, is the organist but has serious illness but still fasts ans attends mass after walking a 2.5 mile round trip.
Manuscript comment: “Ans: 1. sent faculties to receive converts. 2. Cannot guarantee a supply, nor requests for Fr Banham so far in advance. 3. Make list of Bens. & Expos[itions] for me to file, to be hung in Sacristy. I allow all you mention, best put approx. rate of 40 hours [?] Lent. [?] nights. 4. Choir. I mean only boys in Parishes. Be [kind?] to the old men. [rest illegible]. 5. Does Mrs Ridsdale want to do non-fasting Coms.? Rome will not allow twice a week at most!. Jan 12/27”

Programme for Visitation on 28 November. Opportunity to have tea with John Major MP. Social arranged to meet the parishioners. Concern about access to catholic education in the locality; also, running a "key catechist" programme at distant venues (nearest being at Thetford, is hard for people with work and family commitments.

"A group of ten organ players from the Organ Society of Great Britain recently enjoyed a musical visit to Our Lady Star of the Sea parish church in Lowestoft. Having been frustrated by Covid disrupting performances over the past yeas, a group from the society visited our Lady, along with several other local churches, on 16th July to play and listen to the churches organs."
