              Writing from the Presbytery at Southwold. Going to Mundesley to be checked up - hopes the report will be good. been swimming twice a day - a bit fat. Dr Christopher Helsham is reported to have a dose of TB. Gossip has him almost buried or despatched to south of France. Reality is he is in a bungalow in Gorleston-on-Sea.

              Writing from Cook's Hill Mundesley. Expects to be returning to Beccles next moth. Feeling well and strong. Has enjoyed his stay - meeting many interesting people from nearly every profession.

              Getting back into priestly duties - said Mass on the 3rd anniversary of his ordination - not done since November last. Staying in Southwold as Fr Mason has agreed for him to be there for a bit. Trinity Fair formally opened this morning, the Mayor of Beccles (an ex postman) attended. Glad to be "out" although did enjoy the social life and the people there [Mundesley].

              Writing from the Presbytery at Southwold. Motored to Mundesley by sister and husband - went via Norwich and North Walsham - 40 miles in 1 3/4 hours. Report is good - sending it on [not present]. Beccles is full of illness, severe and very infectious. Fr Campbell back from holiday.

              Writing from Cook's Hill Mundesley. Thanks the Bishop for his kind words: a nice and sympathetic Bishop. Includes photo [not present] to show how fit he is (taken on 8 April). His outlook has been widened having met so many people from various colleges. Glad the Church has a definite teaching with no humbug.

              Writing from Cook's Hill Mundesley and is reporting on his recuperation from TB infection. Not got it badly but is running a high temperature which has got the doctor's concerned. Visited by Fr Snowden and F Squirrell. tries to be optimistic but does think of coffins! Thanks the bishop three times for being so kind to write. Hopes to keep knowledge of the illness limited to friends only.

              Writing from Cook's Hill Mundesley. Put on 5lbs 4oz in 5 weeks; "@ £9-9-0 a week!!". 60 in the sanatorium - wonderful to see them recovering; routine life - like a novitiate, without the religious part. Asked whether he was Anglican or catholic after the Xmas Dinner - told them, they said I thought so.

              Writing from Cook's Hill Mundesley. Doctors suggest leaving by mid/end May. Fr Snowden visits often, as do Mother and Sister. Has omitted Divine Office since arrived, too tiring - should he restart? Walking 3 miles each morning and 27 holes on the putting green in the afternoon. ".. . put on much weight since I have been here, in fact I am developing a Corporation[sic]!"

              Writing from the Presbytery at Southwold. Could not get to Going to Mundesley as mother and sister have Scarlet Fever - Beccles is full of it and Glandular fever which in many cases has been fatal!!! Same last year. Will get to Mundesley as soon as he can and send the report on. Fr Mason has been given the Bishop's message.
