Enclosed estimate for trimming trees etc. Canon Mossey approached by neighbours, with no success. have then contacted the Bishop's office several times; the Bishop considers this work should be done as the trees cause neighbours trouble.
Annotation1: "Oh says Mossey. Parishioners have dealt with it."
Annotation 2: "Contacted Ben Hammond (8-1-83) asking him to "sort out" the problem. PW [Peter Wilson] does not accept that we have the responsibility to fork out £500 etc."

Fr Hammond and correspondent visited neighbours to discuss problem. Trees are too high and not managed, they block the light to their residence and so the church is responsible to sort it out. Observed that to correct the issue requires radical pruning which will entail significant cost - neither the Church nor the neighbours have sufficient funds. This was seen as unhelpful and the meeting ended.

Does not have the Hunstanton Log book' but notes there was a book with cuttings and photographs of the early mission and thinks he handed it over with other Mission papers to his successor. If he does still have them then they'd be stored with is furniture at Sudbury. Canon garnet should be able to provide the required information. Mr Shanks was the builder who did maintenance work on the bell as well as created the turret and having hung the bell there.

Sorry to hear the bell has fallen through the roof - illustrates the need for a periodical inspection of all ecclesiastic buildings. Sketch and description of the belfry at Hunstanton. Considers the school chimney stacks at Bury St Edmunds which had to be replaced lest a child get killed by one falling. Offers advice on keeping the chimney cleaned. Not kept bell bill - installed around 1907-1909 - but provides [not present] supplier's address. If Fr Flynn had not take away the bound log book with St Edmund K & M [sic] Hunstanton, I used to keep details of benefactors, gifts, dates, photos and anything of interest about the mission. "Goodness knows what it was to him."

Mgr Freeland says estimates for work at Hunstanton was sent on to the Finance Board. Not hearing anything, but needing to get the work done before the estimate is revised he has had painting done, a new oven, a new copper and received a rates demand recently. If the Board can relieve him of the debt, £29, it would help.

Bell has fallen through the roof and caused significant damage. Have told the original church builders, Messrs Shanks, to repair the damage. Cannot pay for the repairs - hope the Finance Board will. As Fr Flynn took the parish books have no idea who made the bell - please advise so Shanks send it away. Collections not good; visitors have very little money - last Sunday 6 farthings in the plate. However, an appeal at 2 collections received £6-1-9.

Quotes Canon Tonks' letter "there is a much larger application being made for repairs at Sudbury". Cannot understand this as he explains with examples of his efforts to ensure the Sudbury buildings were properly maintained - within his own finances. But, "It is a wretchedly rotten old converted cottage." Not happy at being sent to an unsupported mission for the 3rd time - never again!... I'm feeling very fed up..." [further page(s) not present]

Requests reallocation of £5,000 from Miss Insley's estate for general use in Hunstanton Parish. Money urgently needed for work from the Quinquennial Survey - money already spent by Fr Nesden results in him only having £50 in the bank. Trustees have no objection - hopes the Finance Board will agree.
