Listing payments made by Mrs Ten Broeck Between 28/12/1911 & 16/06/1914 amounting to £312 10s. Lists payments he made out of Diocesan Funds in accordance with letter of 3/8/1914 on behalf of Mrs Ten Broeck amounting to £375. Total being £687 10s 0d

Re Estate of Mrs Mary Ten Broeck. Certifying that he attended American Consulate & made deposition in answer to interrogatories attached to commission. Has now found original letters not available at the time, details them & attaches them.

Mrs Ten Broeck's letter asking Diocese to pay £125/yr to March for unexpired period of her undertaking has been found. New York Commission now "closed" so letter may not be used as evidence. Sends enclosures showing he did his best.

to David Norris: Regarding the request from Father John Coventry. The NCF has limited funds for such applications. Possibly provide a token of £250 but need to make sure from Bishop Clark that the Theological Commission is backing this seminar. So, as a grant from the Bishop's Conference may be taken as approbation this should be cleared with Alan Clark.

Pat Browne, Westminster. Details enclosed for the 30 day vigil as it has taken place so far. Each Diocese is doing it its own way (examples enclosed). Middlesborough are ending on 17 March, would it be possible for East Anglia to take it up from then until end of April?

Having returned from an episcopal funeral in Portsmouth, invited to another in Liverpool by Archbishop Worlock for +Anthony Hitchen. You now know why the visitation is cut short - proposes to leave for Liverpool after lunch and hence cannot attend the school on Monday but offer Wednesday instead.

Bishop Clark to Vicar General, Mgr James Dunn, Liverpool Diocese). The diocese could not make provision for this "unnecessary" church and the trustees would have to find a priest to staff it. A private enterprise which has been costly in time to ensure it will eventually come under the Diocesan Trust, etc. Not advisable to include in your Ad Clerum.

The management of the Banham Trust is quite constrained and has worked until now - sets out major aspects of the trust. The Bishop recommends that it stays as it is. However he'd be interested to hear anything Mr Coney or the Abbot can come up with.

Page 1: written to Prior S A Parker. Returns the manuscript ("Saint Joseph's Brindle") with pencilled comments plus attached a page of typewritten comments. Lived in Brindle for 9 years but is not an authority. Abbot Turner's "Red Letter Men" was of interest to him but it was never published. However Mgr TA Turner did ask for something for his "Cathedral Record" and this was passed onward, approved by the censor (Canon Morgan) and published. Just before his death Abbot Turner did speak of a nephew who is an authority on Brindle.

Solicitor writing to the Bishop that Canon Francis Patrick Keiron died on 8 June 1981 and has made a bequest amounting to about £60,000. This is for the incumbent East Anglia Diocese Bishop to spend on the development of the National Shrine in Walsingham, specifically for the Open Air Altar or failing that for charitable purposes connected with the Shrine.
When the Grant of Probate has been obtained, it will have to be re-sealed in Singapore, so the legacy will be some little time in coming. Asks for instructions on how to deal with the proceeds.

Roy Gathercole said the Bishop was prepared to preach at the Blessing of the new chapel. Reading from Ephesians (Chp II v13-22) but an alternative in Kings - let Fr Birch know which he wants so he can warn the reader.

Fr Quinlan provides the minutes for the Deanery Conference held at St Peta's in Gorleston. He announces that he is off to Dundee in 10 days. John [Hyland?] is leaving too but for Liverpool.

Opening line: "I am writing this for my dear good grandchildren. Sooner or later they will be asked to justify their adhesion to the Roman Catholic religion by someone for whom they have a respect, possibly for whom they have ventured to develop an affection."

Bishop & Fr Allen had several hours before American Consul re Mrs T. Broeck's promise to pay £125/yr to March for 5 yrs. Her original letter (3 Aug 1914) asking him to pay rest of instalments not found but American court has copy of it & his reply. Request urgent search at Northampton for the original; wire status and send letter by registered mail immediately! Depositions being despatched to America on Saturday...
