Suggests to the Bishop that whilst her brother, Fr Leo (Ben) Hammond, will not admit it, that he is finding Aldeburgh a strain. His forgetfulness worries him. Would the bishop consider a chaplaincy at the Sue Ryder house in Peterborough? If he could help at All Souls' (which was built by their grandfather) and where Ben was baptised, confirmed and ordained. She is returning to Aldeburgh with Fr Hammond to help for a few days.

Parishioners write to Bishop to express their regret that Fr Cowan [sic] is being taken away and the manner of his removal. The letter expresses their affection for him and good work he has done in the area. 61 signatures. [PTO at bottom of page but nothing further available]
ParishionerStunned about the news that Fr Hypher is to leave. The parish needs healing and reconciliation which Fr Hypher's arrival last year could have brought. Whilst have respect for the Benedictines, they do not have the skills nor resources to nurture an active parish. Feels the parish has been let down, but must respect the Bishop's decision.
ParishionerAfter all the uncertainties they are please to have a full-time priest at Beccles / Gillingham. Concerned that the Sign of Peace as practised in Gillingham should remain - all part of the reverent and friendly way of celebrating Mass there.
manuscript annotation: "A/D 25/4/94 - in favour of a reverent sign of peace!"
Shock that Fr Blakesley is to move on after one year - better to be at least three. Believes that in 11 years the parish has had 8 priests and has suffered as a result.
[separate note included in photocopy]: To "Charles" [Abbot Lombard] Edward would like to talk about Beccles - another change of priest is not welcome - the letting of the presbytery upsets others. from "Philip" 22-11-1995
The Abbot's letter about leaving Fr Simon at St Benet's for stability was welcomed. Look forward to the announcement in the New year.
ParishionerMr A H Cox writing on behalf of the parish committee at St Peter's. Fr Tom confirmed his departure yesterday at their meeting. Naturally there is a concern for the community, which behaves as a parish even if it is not one. A resident priest has been a great advantage but if one cannot be found then they'd welcome the opportunity to talk to the Bishop about it.
ParishionerArticle on page 2: "Dear brothers and sisters, My first message in our diocesan newspaper must begin with a heartfelt thank you for the wonderfully warm welcome you have given me. Thank you for your kind messages, your prayers and the presence of so many of you at the Cathedral for the Mass of Installation on 16 July." Story continues.
Thanks the Bishop for his original and quaint Christmas Card. Asks if they can have midnight Mass in the chapel in the house again. The Abbot of Belmont has told her that he requested faculties for the two newly ordained priests he is sending her.
Kenyon, Mary Mrs (-1937)Notes that Michael Wingate will have checked out his professional history and qualifications. Suggests that the remuneration needs to take account of a set of conditions (e.g. retirement at 65, pension arrangements, early departure from current employer...). Has discussed this with Mr Stan Tucker at the parish.
Van Schaik, J GSM Scholastica OSM, Mother General, St Mary's Priory, Stamford Hill: Sr Agnes has been prioress for 6 years at Beccles, no other appointee available, would like to re-appoint. Rome in agreement provided no objection from the Ordinary of the Diocese.
manuscript annotation: "Agreed. Aug 7/26."
Bishop on leave. He will be pleased to know a replacement has been found for Fr Richmond. VG will be a near neighbour (Sheringham) so Fr Malecki can visit him for the diocesan faculties
