Sorry to hear that there is still a possible hitch with the design. Will tell Chapel Studio not to do anything further.

UnknownUntil Fr McBrides' letter of 29 December 1994 completely confused with contrary instructions from different sources. Now the roles are clearer. Result of suggestions have produced a well balanced design for a fine window. Have agreed on a meeting with Mgr Stark regarding his suggested alterations. Cannot make changes prior to the meeting on 26 January. Hope your differences can be resolved and the design can go ahead in its new form.
Chapel StudioRevised the design as requested - concedes that the changes required are an improvement. Retained the Madonna and Child in the centre base since the lack of make the design unbalanced and empty. Describes the current appearance. Hopes that the design will be approved at the 28 November meeting.
Chapel StudioOpportunity to create something very special as an inspirational force. Describes the design and colours to be used in his design. Estimate of £18,000 plus VAT
Chapel StudioPage 1: cover letter to agreement to be signed for Slipper Chapel window work. Original quote was in 1994 for £18,000 plus VAT - Mr Fisher charged an additional £500 for design changes; 3% per annum increase applied.
Page 2: Agreement for payment terms; signed Chapel Studio & Mgr McBride (Chairman of Executive)
Will enjoy the work involved in removing and resiting the window in the West elevation. Regarding the estimate - need to examine the East window to establish condition, etc. The removal of the West window at 3.6.94 was #12,406.00 plus VAT but this is subject to inflation and current cost of raw materials.
Recommends that the window when installed should be protected and explains his preferred method - pleased to quote for this in due course.
All payments to be met by the Guild of Our Lady of Ransom's Master of the Guild, Mgr Anthony George Stark KHS
New quotation for conservation work on the East window. Start date Monday, 4th November.
Clifford G DurantConservation work progress: second lancet complete, can commence separating spent lead from the glass, deadline of mid February is on schedule. Rossi visit to Horsham to view progress welcomed.
Clifford G DurantClifford Durant's report on findings of the Geoffrey Webb East window from 21 August. Water penetration; soot; insufficient seal (washed away in many areas); not to standard expected; fragility of stone. Needs fully rebuilding (detailed description of work to be done).
Clifford G DurantDiscussion about the nature of the Webb window (his last before his death in 1954; executed by others; not signed). Explanation of sourcing glass from Romania and its particular manufacture; using alternative methods for protecting the window; costs of slumped sheet glass and Isothermal system
Clifford G Duranta conciliatory letter suggesting both working towards the same ends but without letting each other know. Tony Rossi was consulted on the best to do the job, he recommended Mr Fisher - so they'd arrived at more or less the same point.
McBride, Edward Rev (1919-2011)Mgr Stark's suggestions and involvement depicts his interest, concern and generosity but these interruptions are diverting Mr Fisher away from his design. Discussed the matter with the Bishop and he asks Mgr Stark to stand back whilst the 2nd design will go for decision at the Shrine Council. It is expected that this design will be accepted.
McBride, Edward Rev (1919-2011)Further comments on the design for the window - inclusion of medallions; effect on light levels; blue arc.
McBride, Edward Rev (1919-2011)Discussed the design with Fr Alan Williams. Ransom crest instead of medallion of Our Lady & Child?
McBride, Edward Rev (1919-2011)Design approved by Shrine Executive. Changes as per Mgr Stark - dates and crests in bottom of windows. Design to go forward to Shrine Council for approval.
McBride, Edward Rev (1919-2011)Summarising the situation regarding conflicting requests for the design. "Holy House" not included in the design as no one has any idea what it may have looked like. Hopefully design 2 will be accepted.
McBride, Edward Rev (1919-2011)Fr Stark recently back from the Falklands. Contacted Mr Fisher [Chapel Studio]. Describes the Guild Council's suggestions. Using the King's Lynn Shrine of Our Lady as a model instead of having a seated figure which is too much like the actual shrine. The inscription and emblems also described. No question of a re-design - modifications for the Guild. Mgr McBride had not fully explained that the window was donated by the Guild to celebrate the centenary of the first Walsingham Pilgrimage. The Ransomers had given money for three projects and the first being the re-glazing of the Slipper Chapel. So it remains the Guild's responsibility to see that the new Annunciation window reflects the centenary.
