Wishes the bishop's time in hospital will be successful. Cathedral repairs mentioned by the bishop - will ask Fr Tim Ryan at the American base to make an appeal. Suggestion that he could help Fr Smith at Bretton now that Fr Arnold has left for Great Missenden.

Fr Wilson and the bishop are not clear about the aim of the plan when it does not show the dining room and study being made into one. Ask the architect to produce a plan showing this. Despite the house being over 100 years old need to remember how much has already been spent and where the money comes from. This is absorbing so much of Huntingdon "savings". Will the church need major work?
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Thanks for the big cheque - this goes into the fund for "...running of the show..", it is not my personal emolument. Paragraph on the "centrality of the priest as THE Eucharistic Minister in collaboration with the bishop." Sorry for the people of Oxmoor but there was no alternative. "You will have found my fur hat" - arrangements for passing it on.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Covering letter for an application to apply for a grant for a church organ
CorrespondentGlad to have been sent to Huntingdon. The fly in the ointment is Good Shepherd Hall. Presents a number of issues associated with the Hall - its need for repairs, its use within the parish, perhaps over capacity for the parish, ability to care for the people of Oxmoor estate, money spent there could be better spent elsewhere. hence after speaking to Mgr Dick Wilson and Mgr Tony Philpot plus two parish meetings he asks for permission to close the hall. Mark Little and Mgr Wilson can provide financial information.

Further to the letter from the bishop dated 2 December 1980. They are planning the Week of Prayer i 1982. An invitation would be to a non-eucharistic service as otherwise that would effectively exclude the Salvation Army and the Society of Friends. Will write in November 1981 to invite you.
CorrespondentTry your native air to put your right. Celebret enclosed. Do try a stall at the "Combined Catholic Bazaar" and he will speak to Lady Winefride. But, she may be on retreat at Haywards Heath.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Cannot shake of the flu' - requests leave to go to Ireland from 10th to end of the month.
Opportunity to have a stall at the "Combined Catholic Bazaar" at Kensington Town Hall on 23-24 November under the patronage of the Cardinal. Can the bishop obtain the patronage of Lady Winefride? The stall is for the St Neots debt.
Do take advantage of the dispensation - do not take risks with your health. Well done regarding the land; tell Canon Tonks of any other interest.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Grateful for the dispensation - will try without it. Was seriously worries last Sunday. Thinking about altering the Mass times. Mr Ekins has been in touch about the plot at St Neots. He has had some enquiries and Fr Malone has advised him to go into the matter.
Malone, John F Rev (-1970)Have asked Rome for a dispensation to assist in enduring the long fast on Sundays. Act as if you now have it. Take nourishment before 2nd Mass (nothing alcoholic). So as not to cause scandal do it on the QT - explain if necessary to your housekeeper that you have special leave for this.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Not sure that Fr Flynn believes Fr Malone did not act to frustrate his plans for the cottage. Mrs Gregory was a "pin-pricker" and Fr Malone has learnt patience in dealing with such. Whilst health is better he has a constant feeling of impending doom and is getting waspish as a consequence. Letter from Ekins [not present] prompts a request for bishop to express confidence in Fr Malone collecting money for St Neots.
Malone, John F Rev (-1970)Asking Dr Ibbett to apply for a dispensation for Fr Malone. He has been poorly and the long Sunday fast is taking its toll on him. He nearly fell at the altar.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Fr Malone can set his mind at rest regarding Fr Flynn - St Michael's Lodge is let indefinitely. Who will you get instead of Mrs Gregory?
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Unfortunately cannot obtain suitable accommodation. Fr Malone is writing to you. Hopes the bishop will have a mission to give him.
Flynn, Charles S Rev (-1943)Bishop does not wish Fr Flynn to take Mrs Gregory's cottage next to Fr Flynn. Suggests he contact Fr Parker in Felixstowe for suitable accommodation.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Thanks the bishop for the letter of introduction. Cannot write lengthy histories in business letters. Friends are:
- Mr Fordham - to be received. He is staying in Rome. His house is in Geneva
- Mrs Churchill (in Rome with Mr F) - a convert and Catholic correspondent to the Times
- Mrs Arthur Grundy (Mr F's sister) - very high church and is near the Catholic Church - likely to follow her brother
- Mrs Vowgood - good friend; husband is a useful country squire who was 3 times Mayor of Godmanchester, is on board of various useful societies.
- Mrs Towgood - born a Quaker. Interested in Catholic church but not in being a catholic at present.
Am 81 and cannot rise early, fast and go to church at 8.30am on Sundays. Fr Malone brings Holy Communion regularly.

Christmas greetings from him and his flock. Fr Filmer's mission was successful - first four evenings well filled but several sloped off later. Two are placed under instruction and some tepid Catholics have begun a new course.
Malone, John F Rev (-1970)Looking forward to the mission. Mrs Fenwick is at Stukeley Hall and attends Mass at Huntingdon. Miss Dundas just celebrated her 34th anniversary of reception in to the church. The Deanery conference was held and Canon Eeles was most genial and kind.
manuscript annotation: "No answer."
Kimbolton belongs to Rushden parish - Fr Lockyer has asked several times if Fr Heptonstall could take it on - no, district is already far too large. Attack of 'flu with some pneumonia - 5 weeks illness took some getting over.
"Everything is very quiet here - no work & few people. I'm simply vegetating!"
