Michael Kelleher, Witham, Weld & Co writing to Bishop: This property and other property in Great Yarmouth is vested in the Jesuits, but it is proposed to convey all properties into the name of the Diocese Trustee. He will arrange for the Memorandum to be sealed by the Jesuits at the Diocese' request.
Witham, Weld and CoWilliam Lunn has inspected St Mary's with Fr Wrigglesworth - it is in a dangerous state and has settled further since last inspected. Asks the Bishop to allow him to assist in work thought necessary "for I have been accustomed to building in the Fens for sixteen years". Bishop of Portsmouth has also written.
W Lunn, Architect & SurveyorHBarry CC Hastings writes that he has net Fr Mossey in Yarmouth. Also looked at the Italian Church in Bedford - an interesting building, but better inside than out. The Bishop suggested the church at Roade - Fr Mossey agrees. So, started on designs with a view to presenting alternatives based on each building; bearing in mind that the building may become a hall instead of a church. 150 seats. need to be advised on how the local authority parking will impact the design. Budget probably £8,000.
Wearing & HastingsBarry CC Hastings met Fr Mossey in Yarmouth. They are proceeding with sketch designs bearing in mind the Bishop's suggestion. Budget will need to be discussed - but they will design to ensure nothing is wasted. Advised Fr Mossey that it is best to work towards being ready for next Easter.
Wearing & Hastings2 letters from parishioners to the Bishop about the over long time taken for the repairs on the Hall - from Easter to then, November - ingress of water and the general impact on its use. The Bishop replies to both (same letter) and then writes to the builders (Mr Keith Butler of Povell, Flood & Wilson, LVE Buildings, Jarrom Street, Leicester) about something being radically wrong and needing to be attended to urgently. He is sure Fr Shannon has been in touch.

CorrespondentSean Dowling writing to Bishop enclosing [not with this document] the 1982 Parish returns. Modest plans for Church Unity week - discussing with Anglicans what to do for rest of year.
Dowling, Sean Rev OSAThanks the bishop for calling with the plans but disappointed not to be there to have 5 minute discussion on this matter. It was only on seeing the Tablet article that he became aware that another architect was engaged - hence he then submitted his accounts.
Nicholl, Samuel Joseph (1826-1905)Understand that Fr Wrigglesworth has sent his accounts and letters to the Bishop. Hopes to hear from the bishop.
Nicholl, Samuel Joseph (1826-1905)Would not have started on the work if he had known anything was decided. As for the estimate he was asked by return of post to put forward an estimate against another architect who'd quoted £1450. Cannot do this especially when his solution to the site difficulties (either oak or stone pillars), could not promise a lofty clerestory for treacherous foundations. I was proved right by the account in the Tablet of October 10/96 which states that a portion is to be erected at a cost of £2,000.
Nicholl, Samuel Joseph (1826-1905)Nicholl's letter: may admit by silence that they were impossible or impracticable designs. Site difficult and the other side was impractical regarding the design [to cost £1450] as Fr Wrigglesworth had become involved with two architects and had choose. The statement in the Tablet about £2000 being spent on a portion of the design is concerning. Glad to hear that his design may be used elsewhere in the diocese, however it is only fair to pay a very small sum of £20 for what has been done.
Bishop Riddell reply dated 8 February 1897 [copy]: You have no claim whatever because the design would have been rejected by me and it was way beyond the means of the Lynn mission. Design No 2 - you refused to provide an estimate when asked.
Robert Farr writes to the Pope asking for help to enable his wife and himself to be full members of the Catholic Church. He provides a detailed explanation of his circumstances from a young man being brought up as a son of a protestant verger, though being away in Burma during the war, to meeting his present wife and marrying her. Problems arise because he is divorced, protestant, married in a Registry Office: he may not become a Catholic; his wife is barred from receiving the sacraments. He wants to put this right. He has been taking advice from Fr Riley.
Farr, RobertDesciara Boulos has a petition before the Patriarchal Court for separation from his wife, Mei Giamile Damian, for adultery. Court not proceeding since his wife has made a counter claim. Asking Bishop to put the enclosed interrogatory to him since he lives at "13 Marian Arcade, Great Yarmouth".
Side 2, pencilled notes: Wife remains in Palestine, has attributed bad behaviour to you. Notes on being with unmarried women, visiting houses of prostitution, walking with a dancing woman, bad behaviour with a woman

Revd Christopher Warner writes. United service in St Mary's to celebrate Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Salvation Army, Pentacostalists, Anglicans, Methodists, Baptists, United Reform, Quaker - all shares in the service introduced and led by Fr John Reid. A real gift of Clergy and congregations to share together in Christian Fellowship. Hence, with real sadness to learn of the Augustinian;s plans to move out. Because of RC participation in things ecumenical he expresses a real longing that whoever comes afterwards feels comfortable with continuing the ecumenical links.
