Case 2: couple married in Australia (one a Catholic the other a Presbyterian) worried about there not having been a priest present

Pointed observations on British Council of Churches and priests being married (before or after ordination). Mentions that neither Our Lord nor St John the Baptist said one word to criticise the politicians and economic institutions at the time [supported by several Latin quotations].

Fr Back has been in hospital for 3 days with pancreatitis. Description of his condition and stay in hospital. Sees in his diary that he has been out to 40 meals since just before Christmas! Situation report about the Parish: re-heating done; repair programme for presbytery (no longer up for sale); site at Leiston; more children at liturgy; 2 receptions for Eater; assemblies at school; contacting B&Bs and hotels; expects to be chaplain to the Mayor; coach booked for Chrism Mass. Forward look to exchange with priest in London; Verona for a week; first Communions and then Aldeburgh Festival.

Roy Gathercole said the Bishop was prepared to preach at the Blessing of the new chapel. Reading from Ephesians (Chp II v13-22) but an alternative in Kings - let Fr Birch know which he wants so he can warn the reader.

Executive Council has suggested an illuminated scroll be present to the Anglicans on the occasion of their Golden Jubilee - Bishop prepared to sign, copy of text included [not present] (manuscript note - "suggest re-draft"

Requesting written faculties and consent (for the Archives) for the Sacrament of the Sick

Father Colin Gill (Master of the Guardians of the Anglican Shrine) invites Fr Birch, the Bishop and the new Administrator, [Rvd Colven] to dine with him at his home in Walsingham.
Asks the Bishop (or the Dean?) to commission a new Communion Minster, to offset the loss of others, he needs more than one.

The Shrine Council has recommended that the Blessed Sacrament be in the Chapel of Reconciliation and not n the Slipper Chapel; also, the statue of Our Lady of Walsingham be in the Slipper Chapel and not in the Chapel of Reconciliation. Fr Birch quotes from two letters which say the separation of the two is wrong and he says he is unable to explain what has happened - he challenges the Bishop to provide an explanation.

Wishes to implement the suggestions made by the Shrine Council, provided the Bishop approves:

1. permanent reservation of the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel of Reconciliation
2. exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel of Reconciliation whenever pilgrims are present
3. no Blessed Sacrament reserved in the Slipper Chapel
4. removal of tabernacle from the altar in the Slipper Chapel

Cover letter for the 4th edition of the Parish Directory. Mentions the Bishop's visits - 1 in May for Confirmation, 1 in June as a Visitation. PPC planning the programme for the visitation to be sent onwards soon.

The Superintendent Registrar is asking Wymondham to stop pestering his office for a registrar on Saturdays. Fr Brown includes papers to be signed to allow Mary Bates and John Lang to be Authorised Persons.

Sorry to hear of the Bishop's illness and hence inability to visit the parish at the weekend. Fortunate that Mgr McBride administered Confirmation to those who were away when the Bishop came last month. Suggest re-arranging the Visitation to coincide with the 40th Anniversary of the opening of the present Wymondham Church?

Presbytery bedroom accommodation not ready to receive the bishop. Mr Bunbury happy to look after the Bishop at his house. Arrange for Mass at the convent - the nuns will be delighted. Fr Mason will be sending some of his parishioners for confirmation.

Petition for a dispensation for a marriage on 6 January. As time is short dispensation also from banns. They have signed the promises - was this wrong of me?

Faculties requested for Fr Chadwick SJ who will act as extraordinary confessor for Christmas.
Expecting to hear about the matrimonial case. But I know Rome is slow.

Bishop's decision in the "Chapelow-Such" matrimonial case has been passed to the parties - they will continue to live as they have done for the last two years. The woman is anxious for the papers relating to the case. Enclosed [not present] a petition for a mixed marriage, no banns they wish a very quiet wedding. Fr Chadwich SJ coming for Christmas, can he have faculties for confession?
