Sisters came 23 July 1903 and for 3 or 4 months had a Dominican or secular priest for all the services. Bishop Riddell then sent Fr Garnett, requesting them to provide £40 per year (plus collection money from the Convent Chapel). Masses were held at the priest's house and when the "little church was opened" services were held their instead. 18 months ago Fr Garnett wanted a rest on Saturdays and masses would be held instead at the Church on a Monday. The writer lists all that they do (including pay the stipend) - there are only 9 parish people. The Bishop is asked to establish a regular service to the Sisters for good order at the Convent.

Dr Philip Marshall MRCS MRCP DPH reporting on Fr Flynn's health and well being. He describes Fr Flynn as an active, inquisitive and intelligent man who needs not to be idle for 9/10s of the year but engaged in a busy Mission. Many think well of him. He has been frank about his past problems with alcohol - he suffers from Intestinal Toxaemia which is exacerbated by drink. His life does not engage him, but makes him mope and become melancholic.
Correspondent"My Lord, Fr Flynn of this town has asked me to write to you as to his condition - This is the 2nd time I have been called in for the same trouble - gastritis gastric catarrh or nervous depression - He is now progressing well but I have advised to take complete rest to thoroughly restore himself - He is a very highly strung and neurotic patient - but has no organic disease to account for these attacks - I would be very happy to insure his life - I think I have cheered him up & that he will return practically fit from his holidays - Very faithfully yours D J Rygate Surgeon"
manuscript annotation: "Should a man of his temperament take alcoholic drink, or abstain from it rigorously under all circumstances, esp. fro whisky & other ardent spirits?"
CorrespondentW E H Bull saw Fr Flynn this week - he is ill with influenza and his nervous system is completely run down. Consider it a personal favour if the Bishop gives his request urgent consideration for Fr Flynn to have two months off for complete rest. Fr Flynn leads a lonely life and this is worse since his sister died in December.
Manuscript annotation: "Answered. as also Ketterer C report annexed"
Covering letter for the quotation - includes David Melia Stained Glass to remove, overhaul and refit windows.
Quotation: 40 items of work listed with associated costs - total £95,192 + VAT
R S Flynn (Fr Flynn's father) writes to inform the Bishop that his son has Bronchitis following on from Influenza. He might not be able to say mass on Sunday - the doctor hopes that he will. Mr Flynn, Snr. feels his son is too limp and washed out. Fr Page has been asked to help, but it is thought he too may be ill.
Manuscript annotation: "Answered. Too late to find a supply. Better stay in bed rather than risk after effects of "Flu" if Fr Page cannot help him."
Visited Fr Flynn, found him in a very weak condition looking an absolute wreck. Quite clear that Fr Flynn is not drinking - despite some of the comments made by others; he also takes great pride in the church and his house, again contrary to others' comments. Believes that Mr Bull was mistaking a previous condition's consequences with Fr Flynn's current situation.
Ketterer, Constantine Rev (-1940)Summary of events from his appointment to Hunstanton in February 1995 until [around] 7 May 1997. Describing a series of communications / miscommunications leading to a statement by the Bishop about Fr Dobson's actions
Dobson, William Rev CSSpThanks the Bishop for his visit to Hunstanton.
Dobson, William Rev CSSpMeeting held with VG chairing it; points raised where:
- Change in mass timetable - for Hunstanton and Dersingham; £10 for each Sacramental visit, as no Collection is received by the parish from Dersingham
- Confessions timetable
- One newsletter - 4p per copy for those sent to Dersingham
- One pastoral council
- All notices to be given by PP
- Dersingham decisions discussed with PP
- PP to have a key to Dersingham church
- Diocesan Mailing lists to reflect one parish
Deacon Matthews asked for time to consider these.
PP now has a list of Dersingham parishioners.
PP reliant on Deacon and parishioners to develop the integration of Hunstanton and Dersingham.
Just received, and is forwarding, the St Celia's contribution for the visitation last year, from the Deacon, Len Matthews.
Dobson, William Rev CSSpVisit done as requested but confused as to why it was requested? Fr Dobson had arranged for Sr Bernarda to take Communion weekly, had anointed her when she took a bad turn, found her to be confused at a recent visit.
Dobson, William Rev CSSpCovering letter for programme.
Deacon wants confirmations at Dersingham; Priest wants them all at Hunstanton and that Parishioners from Dersingham to come to Hunstanton for the buffet lunch.
Sorry for delay in response - busy preparing for the Ad Limina in Rome visit which starts tomorrow.
Can understand that Dersingham people would want confirmation to be held there. But there are time constraints, etc. - please sort out between Len Matthews and yourself. The Dean will be doing the pre-visitation report with you and Len.
Thanks the Bishop for his visitation. Encloses the stipend for his church; Deacon has not provided his contribution so assumes it will be sent direct separately.
Dobson, William Rev CSSpNo mass at Hunstanton due to Fr Flynn being ill. He has arranged for a Dominican Father from Leicester to say Mass - but Fr Flynn may be able to say it too. Send faculties including duplication if necessary.
Manuscript annotation: "Answered. Sent necessary faculties straight to Fr Flynn."
Advisory note to the Bishop. Visited Fr Flynn and found him very much down after the "flu". Doctor suggests he gets away for a short rest.
Eeles, Charles Rev (1868-1926)For last 3 or 4 weeks Fr Flynn has been at Oxborough and Fr Dnage[?] at Hunstanton. He went to Hunstanton for a wedding but became so ill he could take no part in it. He returned to Oxborough for Sunday but was unable to say Mass, which Fr Ketterer did instead.
Eeles, Charles Rev (1868-1926)Has had a person under instruction for a year and wishes to baptise her so she can receive communion on Christmas morning.
manuscript annotation: "Sent permission Dec 4/26."
Felt he had had to write as he did but thanks the Bishop for appointing him to Sudbury. He and Fr Heptonstall will make arrangements and Fr Flynn asks if the Dean Fr Page can oversee the handover at both ends.
