Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)R E Jefford, Act. Area Administrator, asking the Bishop for a replacement chaplain for Papworth hospital now Fr Drury has left the parish.
Cambridgeshire Area Health AuthorityJust back from Peru. This legislation will probably be more strongly urged in near future - that non-Catholics may not approach Catholic altars for Holy Communion. The Bishop explains this further. On Confession his advice is to leave as is for now, until there might be a reiteration of more restrictive legislation from Rome. At which point you will have to tell the lady the this permission no longer obtains. The bishop says he ought to let Fr Kerby know that John Drury is grateful to the people of St Ives.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Wednesday June 8 to meet informally with the St Henry's people. Important that the parishioners see him now they have a parish in their own right.
Reverse side: Meeting manuscript [probably Bishop's handwriting] notes but no date/subject/objective - Philpot / Drury / Rogers all mentioned - topics "prayer", "Preaching" "human relationships", "emotive issues"
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)This badly needs attention,. Gerry [Moorcraft] would laugh cynically! A visit to Walsingham is indicated - Michael Ward (solicitor) assures him that all is in order. Roland is an admirable Pilgrimage Director but hopeless with staff. Campbell Steward speaks accurately. Maybe John Drury could be introduced to this difficult area.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Bishop Charles and Bishop Derek have offered support for "THE PROJECT". Cardinal Basil thinks there will be no difficulty in raising £150,000. Appeal being run by Fr Birch; financial responsibility to be the Diocese'. Helpful for Fr John Drury to help Fr Wilson? There is no treasurer worthy of the name. Charitable trust set up by Michael Ward. Bishop leaving it to Fr Wilson to address the how, when and what.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Sorry comfort in the words of Our Lady to Bernadette .. "she did not have to convince the hierarchy, she just had to give them the message and stick by its authenticity." We cannot convince Fr Kerby that his concept of ministry is out of kilter: but we can go on telling him. Bishop refers to Fr John (Drury?) being told that he lacks steel; sure that he is now making up for it in Talara. But is the congregation at St Ives too complacent? Bishop irritated that John Gardner is under employed.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Bishop Clark is travelling, with Fr Philpot, to Bolivia to visit one of his priests, Fr John Drury. Fr Drury has been in South America for 5 years and the last 12 months have been spent in the foothills of the Andes. He returns to East Anglia in the Autumn and has sent an open letter to all those in the diocese who have helped him with the prayers and alms.
Dowsey, Gary Rev (1955-)a short article based on the press release.
UnknownNotes of a telephone conversation about Hugh Byron's Building Project.
Wilson very concerned that things must be done properly using an architect and master builder. Should not be a "botch job". Fr Byron has to be persuaded to not object to paying proper fees for work done. NB planning permission might be required. Wilson quite critical and unimpressed with Fr Byron's projected house alterations. Yes, do school. Wilson suggests Fr Drury see Fr Byron and discuss the proposals. Need a known, architect e.f. Julian Limitani. Also Wilson considers getting an 85% grant to improve St MAr's school building is "just not on".
Bishop Peter Smith is shown visiting a twinned parish in Tambogrande, Peru. Fr John Drury spent some years in the parish and arranged for donations from the Diocese of East Anglia to be distributed within Tambogrande.
UnknownBishop Peter Smith is stood on the steps before the entrance to a small wooden house. Fr Drury stands nearby and watches.
Reverse of the image:
- "The Bishop blesses on of the new homes built through the donations from the Diocese of E. Anglia. House of Geoje and Elizabeth, recently married but until then homeless"
- a stamp in purple ink, (blurred) text in Spanish, presumably that of the photographer's organisation (Foto Estudio Juan)
Bishop Smith and Fr Drury stood in a group with a woman and four children.
Reverse: "Bishop Peter & Fr John inside one of the homes"
Have spoken with Fr Wilson. You should direct your attention solely to your 66 year old school. Things have to be done properly through commissioned architects whose fees are paid and builders engaged. John Drury has been asked to discuss the proposal with you. Do not do flatlets. Not "clipping your wings" but must be certain of direction and why.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Hopes that Fr Drury has recovered from his unpleasant virus infection. Fr Wilson has suggested that Fr Drury visit Fr Byron to discuss his proposals. No flats over garages. Must do things through the proper channels engaging proper architects and builders. Bishop suspects Fr Byron will get mates to do the job for him.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Contact from Fr Emerson regarding Fr Drury's release for missionary work in South America. Considering release end of September. Offers to visit St Ives to discuss the matter, and will make the release public around Eastertide.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Peter Cansdale, to be ordained deacon, to be accepted by Fr Drury into the Parish for exposure to parish work as part of his training for the priesthood.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Thanks Fr Jenkins for kind note and very generous offering. Enjoyed visit to Wymondham. Pleased to see improvements in house and general pastoral activity in the parish. Enclosing a cheque towards John Drury's Mission fund in response to Hazel's gift of one of her pictures.
