Part of The Sacred Heart Parish, St Ives

Full text:
Dear Ray, Thank you for your two letters and forgive me if I reply with one! Suffice it to say that in your "sanatio" letter you have done right, but record it. As to your other "casus" , you have done right.
But I also want to thank you for agreeing to give your interest to a needy parish when and if this occasion presents itself. When all have answered my plea, I will be in touch.
I registered dismay that you still feel grieved that you were not given the "go-ahead" for a hall. You could certainly have carried the financial burden. But you will recall that my response was whether St Ives needed a hall, whether your present guild room was not adequate, whether this kind of money (for it is big money) was warranted, whether your congregation really were with you, etc. Should we have authorised this? I'm still gently unrepentant.
I'm slow to read your coded message ... about OAP's and all that. I thought one had to be 65 before reaching that honoured status. 65? YOU?
As always - and it has ever been so - I am deeply grateful for your generous ministry.

Fr Kerby is a beloved man, a devoted priest and a treasure - but his "Hall-ideology" receives a cold response from his Bishop.
Despite Mr Latin's generosity & goodwill, the Bishop entreats Fr Kerby to consider the bigger picture of the Diocesan expansion and the fact that the hall implies a mortgage of £150,00 at least.

Thanks the Bishop for his card on the occasion of Fr Kerby's Ordination anniversary. So many years have passed - he still feels liek a beginner.
The planning application has been deferred for a month. Main objection is car parking space and increased congestion outside.

Mr Bob Latin has written about his proposal to design and build a Hall. He is an engineer of high standing with connections in Brussels and Hong Kong. Fr Kerby recognises that the Bishop needs to know and have his say about this before any work commences.

Covering note: mentions a lot of opposition locally due to poor parking. Relations not good for a number of years because of this. Residents fear it will get worse.
Draft Letter:
Diocese feels this is important for the Parish. It s a large one covering a considerable number of villages around St Ives. HDC's policy for expansion has led to a growth in congregation and their use of the Church. Diocese is concerned that this growth does not adversely affect the Parish. If there are any areas of concern we hope they can be discussed and problems overcome to help the local Catholic Community to develop and grow as a worship of God.

A memo from Mark Little to the Bishop. Having spoken to Nick Safell, there is no reason why the Bishop shouldn't write to Huntingdon DC in support of the parish's planning application. If he does do so, it would be useful to talk to Julian Limentani who submitted the bid. He is prepared to draft a letter for the Bishop.

Being parishioners of 4 years standing, Mr Latin and his wife have noted the lack of a Hall. There is a need for additional room to accommodate prayer groups, parish retreats, fund raising events, social events. The couple offer their skill and energies to orgainise fundraising and provides a cheque of £500 to get things started.
