Appraisal of last year's pilgrimage (from St Martin's, Ruislip) revealed the visit to the Chapel of Reconciliation was the "high spot". Planning to return on 3rd May with 40 pilgrims. Asking to say an Anglican mass (Rite A) at the Chapel.
Gabb-Jones, Adrian Revd(Dated Vigil of Pentecost 1984) Rev Howard Weston-Smart introduces himself as a member of the Old Roman Catholic Church who regularly visits Walsingham. Provides some background information about himself, his wife and the school they work at. Asking the Bishop for permission to say Mass when next in Walsingham. He notes that permission had, in the past, been granted to members of his Rite to offer Mass privately in the Slipper Chapel.
Weston-Smart, Howard Rev(Dated Vigil of the Nativity of S. John Bapt.) Had to express his thanks - much as the leper was the only one of the ten who returned to give thanks to Our Lord for being healed.
Weston-Smart, Howard RevHis parish priest [James J Rigby? Named on the headed notepaper for Church of St Thomas of Canterbury, in Liverpool] suggested that he write to the Bishop. Outlines a problem with the volume of penitents for confession at Walsingham and the restrictions on hearing it during Mass. It became necessary on several occasions to "dispose of them at speed and missing out all but the essential prayers"; vet in a hurry and dash after the other concelebrants in procession. Realises that Rome has three times refuse permission to allow Confessions during Mass.
Harvey, John Rev"Have you started going back to Mass yet? This week I went to my first Mass in over three months. I had been watching Masses livestreamed weekly, but of course it didn't feel the same. I looked forward to being able to return to a Mass celebrated in three dimensions." Story continues.
