Arthur Young / Allan D ReidPage 1: apologises for not sending enclosed receipt - away on holiday
Page 2: Typed receipt on headed paper for £28 in connection with proposal for new church in Aldeburgh
13 separate receipts for a premium paid on 1st August and 1st February annually between 1913 and 1921 [not all present]. Policy number 11281 for Rev E E Garnett paid at a Wisbech agency
Envelope marked "Hunstanton / Garnett's policy / Receipts"
Canon Garnett asks for the Life Insurance policy document held by Canon Tonks in order to endorse it for access to the bonuses. The church at Wellingborough has been repainted and he is planning to obtain new bellows for the organ. Fr Hyde is improving and will recover; is Fr Harris still alive? Canon Garnett has a very bad cold, is not fasting, has not applied for a dispensation as he may be placed on the sick list, which would not help the Diocese.
Garnett, Ernest Edmund Rev (1872-1948)£400 due at end of month. Has asked Mr Reade to send bill to Canon Tonks. Arrangements for payment may involve a post-dated cheque as Fr Davidson wishes to see this small builder paid early. [Bishop manuscript annotation: "Do with this (Canon Tonks) as you see fit, i.e. send cheque at once or wait till Davidson's return"]. Fr Davidson will try to raise more money in Spain with help of the Spanish lady here. Lost the Bishop's questions regarding Religious Instruction - but says there are 14[13?] in Aldeburgh and 12 in Leiston who attend Catechism; he does extra help for individual cases. [Bishop manuscript annotation: [?] another copy [?][?]full up!]. Parnell trouble: with the Bishop's support Fr Davidson will have the strength to deal with her (described as a bully and ultimately a coward) and be friendly but not discuss parish business. A Real hope for the Church by December.
Davidson, Charles Madgwick Rev DD BADoes not have the Hunstanton Log book' but notes there was a book with cuttings and photographs of the early mission and thinks he handed it over with other Mission papers to his successor. If he does still have them then they'd be stored with is furniture at Sudbury. Canon garnet should be able to provide the required information. Mr Shanks was the builder who did maintenance work on the bell as well as created the turret and having hung the bell there.
Flynn, Charles S Rev (-1943)Sorry to hear the bell has fallen through the roof - illustrates the need for a periodical inspection of all ecclesiastic buildings. Sketch and description of the belfry at Hunstanton. Considers the school chimney stacks at Bury St Edmunds which had to be replaced lest a child get killed by one falling. Offers advice on keeping the chimney cleaned. Not kept bell bill - installed around 1907-1909 - but provides [not present] supplier's address. If Fr Flynn had not take away the bound log book with St Edmund K & M [sic] Hunstanton, I used to keep details of benefactors, gifts, dates, photos and anything of interest about the mission. "Goodness knows what it was to him."
Garnett, Ernest Edmund Rev (1872-1948)A £25 cheque sent in final settlement of the £75 loan from the Diocese for building additions to the Church in Hunstanton.
Garnett, Ernest Edmund Rev (1872-1948)Bell has fallen through the roof and caused significant damage. Have told the original church builders, Messrs Shanks, to repair the damage. Cannot pay for the repairs - hope the Finance Board will. As Fr Flynn took the parish books have no idea who made the bell - please advise so Shanks send it away. Collections not good; visitors have very little money - last Sunday 6 farthings in the plate. However, an appeal at 2 collections received £6-1-9.
Heptonstall, Donald V Rev (-1954)Writes to Monsignor (assumed to be Canon Tonks): Receipt for Bishop's generous gift to the Mission enclosed. Post Office has acquired the piece of meadow, rendering the site too narrow for Church & Presbytery. Describes the nature of planned expansion in Wymondham. Has identified a site 10 minutes walk from current address. Has obtained pews & chairs for the two churches in Wymondham and Dereham. Increased seating accommodation, more dignified and silent when congregation sit or stand.
Ketterer, John Joseph Rev SJ (-1973)Need £14-5-0 out of Mission's funds to pay for electric lighting in the new church and presbytery. Altar, awaiting estimates, can be built for when the church is opened and consecrated by the Bishop. Lack of labour hinders work progress. Accepted masses from Fr Demford of Westminster [list not present]. "We have been left in peace here for some time now, but a ship was blown up off here last Saturday."
Mason, William Hugh Owen Rev (1928-2017)Encloses the builders account [not present] for extra work outside the contract. Done to save future expense. Contract was only for "fabric" of church and house. Builder is pressing for his money - can Canon Tonks let Fr Mason know what can be done soon.
St Leger Mason, Henry Patrick Rev (-1940)Receipt for money from Canon Tonks for £350 for Architects Certificate for new Church and house and £14.5.0 for Electric Lighting in the new Church

St Leger Mason, Henry Patrick Rev (-1940)Southwold Council will not meet for some time - the town clerk assures Fr Mason that they will not press for the road charges whilst they wait for an exemption based on erection of Church and Presbytery in the site.
St Leger Mason, Henry Patrick Rev (-1940)£350 due for work done. Slowly progressing hope it will be complete in a month or two
St Leger Mason, Henry Patrick Rev (-1940)Housekeeper, N Smith, writing for Fr Page who is unable to use his hand to write & since his seizure is forbidden to travel. Statement & bills are correct. Fr Clare left nothing to pay with & there is nothing in hand from there. Fr Page pleased to have help from Fr Thomas.
Page, George Joseph Rev (1864-1937)House adjoining his Church is vacant next week and has made an offer on it Can manage with his present funds but not to buy furniture and so asks if the Canon would ask the Bishop to grant £50 for Mission furniture, or, give permission to appeal via Catholic newspapers for furniture.
