Catholic Church in London Road, King's Lynn - flow tested the drains - letter describes the drains arrangement at the church; page 2 provides a schematic of the drains
pg1-5: comments - accommodation enough for the future?; weekday chapel and sanctuary too small?; alignment of seating; more space before the altar; ambo space; cross restricted to rear wall; celebrant's chair space; empty spaces at angles to the sanctuary; no tabernacle in plan; provision for a font /baptism space?; need a reconsideration of the planning of the day chapel; location of organ; storage space; heating circuits. Need a lot more thought on use of this church and its layout.
pg6: Appendix (observations on particular measurements and dispositions)
pg7: plan of church with 10 points identified for comments
Allclear Drain Services have inspected the foul and surface water drainage and undertaken water flow tests.
WES, a soils investigation company, have carried out window sampling at three locations.
Recommendations: without remedial work on the church foundations there will continue to be slow movement. Ultimately the front of the church may need to be reattached to the remainder.
Canon Burditt (Diocesan Officer for Areas of Expansion) reports in a visit made to King's Lynn at Fr Hammond's invitation. The purpose was to advise on which of two plots being offered by the Council for a new Catholic Church. Describes local demographics for the town and for Catholics. The two site being Marsh Lane and Reffley. On balance the two sites are about equal; Fr Hammond has a preference for Reffley. So, Canon Burditt recommends that the Reffley site be considered for development as a Catholic Church and presbytery.
