Distressed to learn of Fr Arthur's withdraw from Burnham Market. Welcomes Fr Richmond back, Glad the Salvatorians are honouring the agreement for pastoral care of the parish.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Sensible case for Mass timings - ensure it is a relief from the Sunday programme rather than an increase.
Get quotations for work on house and garage.
Was unwell on Sunday and had a few days in bed with a French bug - after a week's conference in Paris.
Sorry to hear of the decision but understands the need for rest and quiet. Says he has been a source for inspiration and has enjoyed his priestly presence; people will miss him mightily
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Please to hear he is recovering from surgery. The proposition concerning All Saints has been passed to Peter Wilson for his legal and financial judgement. Will need to call the congregation together and lead them to a decision. We must be free to re-order the church for the modern liturgy - you say that Bishop Blackburne is investigating this matter.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Fr Langley's deteriorating health understandably gives cause for concern. There are no plans yet for Blakeney. It is a mission station and part of Walsingham/Wells parish, it is not a parish in its own right. Pastoral charge of Blakeney upon Fr Langley's death by another priest is not predictable. Bishop hopes the committee will continue to be responsible for the practical "running of the church".
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Signing himself as Frank Arthur SDS, he knows that Fr Richmond is not continuing at Massingham but the Bishop's mention of rumours of Fr Arthur going there have caused him to think that he might like to do so. His health is not good but Burnham Market is not heavy work.
Arthur, Francis Rev SDSIll health compels him to leave. Not felt up to it for 8 months - medical advice is to leave and take a course of treatment in the hope of better health. Sorry to leave; enjoyed being in the parish and Diocese of East Anglia. Fr Richmond ready to take over.
Arthur, Francis Rev SDSFr Arthur in poor health and asking to be relieved of his duties at Burnham Market. No clear plans for the parish but Fr Richmond has agreed to look after the parish indefinitely. Next Provincial Council meeting will review this situation.
Clark, Hilary Rev SDSSuggest that the official hand over date is 9 September. Fr Richmond is happy to work at St Henry's indefinitely and Fr Arthur will go to Saltdean in Sussex to be cared for by his family.
Clark, Hilary Rev SDSProposing to leave on Wednesday 20 October with his housekeeper. Has informed the PP Fr Murphy SM
Never expected to be in Blakeney so long. His infirmities require him to retire and will go to Lancashire to live in a rent-free cottage offered by a Catholic farmer. Provides basic information in Sunday congregation numbers and income.
No reply needed.
Fr Langley counters the Bishop's suggestion that Fr Brendan Peters stays at St Peters, with a suggestion that Fr Joe Parr (and housekeeper) come instead. He argues that he does not know Fr Peters except by reputation (.. "probably a characature of reality") and would need to know more. Fr Parr he does know and is willing to help him through his condition and colostomy.
Langley, Gerard Rev (-1992)Illness forces him to request leaving Burnham - needing rest and quiet now.
Richmond, Hugh Rev SDS (1912-)Bishop away. Know of Fr Arthur's illness. Understand difficulty in finding a replacement. Diocese will have a problem too - would need to arrange limited Sunday cover from Walsingham.
McBride, Edward Rev (1919-2011)Note addressed to "Matthew" [Duffin, RCDEA Administrator?]: Caller, John Cozens-Hardy, says a committee has been formed to raise funds and make improvements for the church - Fr Langley is away (not sure if he is going to return) and Fr Weaver (from Walsingham) is attending the church. If Fr Langley (Gerry) does not return what will happen, will the presbytery be sold? Fr Langley's two sisters are "holding the fort". Committee meeting on 14th April.
manuscript note: "Rang Mr Cozens-Hardy - 14.4.88 - what are the future plans?
