Writing to Myles Osborne (Diocesan Financial Administrator): Clarifying the position with regard to the Estates Funds and the ability to retain Church, Presbytery and House. Necessary to meet tax liabilities consequently the House (40 Manor Road) will have to be sold but need the Bishop's urgent consent to proceed.
Berry & Walton (1983-2018)Miss Insley, deceased, left £900 for foundation masses for John Hickman (not deceased) and herself. Please confirm acceptance of the gift on behalf of the Diocese.
Berry & Walton (1983-2018)Will of Miss Insley for Peter Wilson to consider. Not sure how advantageous it might be for Parish or Diocese. £5190 in cash was passed to the Bishop by an executor for the purpose of putting the house [Manor Road?] to right. Chris Toller to talk to the Trustees.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Confirms that the building may commence according to the terms of the will. Keep Fr Wilson informed.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Letter based on Insley Will notes by Fr P Wilson. "But, after consultation, my advisors do not see the likelihood of our undertaking the construction of a church - at least in the foreseeable future."
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Passes on the comments from Witham Weld. The Trustees need to decide what they want to do. Before they approach an architect, he has costs associated with a 100 seat church with parish/social room.
Duffin, Matthew CCopy of will enclosed [not present] - aspects highlighted regarding building of a church being proposed by trustees in Dersingham. Questions about how the trust funds might be handled.
Duffin, Matthew CProgress so far: value of estate established at £330,000. Survey of area identified 158 Catholics - possibly 200 in total. Plan to refurbish the house - sufficient for an Oratory/Chapel in one large ground floor room. The can seek a priest to reside temporarily; he could say mass in a local hall. Hope then to be able to persuade the Bishop to build a church in the village. Fr Nesden is kept informed.
CorrespondentForwarding letter received by post today. expects it will be dealt with by Canon Tonks. Also encloses [not present] a letter left by Canon Garnett clearly stating the wishes of the Late Miss Heycock.
Flynn, Charles S Rev (-1943)Miss E Wilkin has died at 81. Understand that she has left a third of her estate to the Diocese - may be a few hundred pounds - do not really know until the Will is read. Do not see any trouble from the non-catholic family.
Mr Hastings has written to you about the extension estimates and his proposals to reduce costs by taking out certain items (which can be added back in later) from the tender. Fishers is a good firm and the only one that called to discuss the tender.
Canon Hunting advised that the Finance Board has allowed the extension to proceed. Mr Hastings will forward his contract to you and work will start on 31st, to be competed by 1 October.
Miss Edith Wilkin will stated "I give to the Northampton Diocese Mission Fund for the sole purpose of the foundation and maintenance of mission £200 3% Defence Bonds and £1,000 3.5% War Stocks." She was quite close about her affairs so the bequest is a great surprise. She was a very good member of the congregation and an opponent of the extensions plans.
Requests reallocation of £5,000 from Miss Insley's estate for general use in Hunstanton Parish. Money urgently needed for work from the Quinquennial Survey - money already spent by Fr Nesden results in him only having £50 in the bank. Trustees have no objection - hopes the Finance Board will agree.
Nesden, Bernard Rev (-1999)Will of Miss Insley :
- Cash received is part of the estate and can be used for house maintenance
- Until the church is built no money for Diocese - hence executors are responsible for house maintenance
- House can be used by a priest and money set aside for his maintenance; if not, then any rental income goes to the estate
- After 10 years, earlier if a Church is built, the house comes to the Diocese - no strings
- After 10 years, if no Church built, money goes to 23 charities
- House too small to be used for construction of a church.
- Maintain distance - nothing lost if take 10 years to make mind up.
Confirm that arrangements are made for 4 masses to be said each year for Miss Insley and Mr Hickman at Hunstanton, there being no church as Dersingham (!).
Bishop is concerned that as there is currently no plan to build a church at Dersingham, the charities which could benefit form the Will will have to wait for 10 years before getting the money - can this requirement be dropped so they get it earlier?
Had a meeting with Fr Wilson and Mr Limantani to set the wheels in motion. Asking the Bishop to write formally to Mr Berry to confirm the request for a Church according to Miss Insley's will.
CorrespondentLegal member of the executors cautioned against placing the estate assets with the Diocese. The building is to proceed forthwith. Have taken steps to liquidate the assets for a deposit to guarantee finance for the building work.
CorrespondentAsking for proof that a Fr Flynn exists in Hunstanton so that a friend's family member's will executors can send some money for Masses. Executors want proof as this approach has been fraudulently used by those posing as Priests to get help from Ireland. Her daughter was baptised at 24 hours old in Beccles by Fr Peter [?] just before he left.
Manuscript annotation: "Answered, Congrats on "Margaret Mary"! Suggested that executors in Ireland cld send money for Masses to me, I wld sent it on to Fr Flynn at Hunstanton"
Thanks for kind wishes and blessing for little "Margaret Mary". She will pass on the bishop's letter to the executors. No idea how much money but no doubt it will be a help to Fr Flynn. Yes, her brother-in-law is Austin Snowden who is at Isay.
CorrespondentVicar General, Mgr James Dunn, Liverpool Diocese) faxed a note to Bishop Clark "Is it all right to circulate this information to our Clergy?" which included the original two-page letter from Dersingham Catholic Group who are looking for a priest. Miss Insley's will is funding an new church and bungalow. Page 2 gives the background to the project for Dersingham.
CorrespondentExecutors of Miss Insley's will announce the intent to build a new Church on the land already acquired by the estate. Design yet to be decided but cost expected to be about £150,000.
