Miss V Gavin writing from Williamson's Hotel, Hunstanton.Re Walsingham, it is a matter of regret that the Catholics possess nothing which might be used as a shrine or site for a church. Enclosed Cheque for £1000 being sale price of March Presbytery & land. Asks him to send cheque to Ollard. Thinks Canon forgot to tell Ollard about sending money to him. Found by chance that new presbytery being built. Money came promptly when Fr Clare told off.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)His action on cheques to Ollard. The stained glass windows arrived yesterday but no candlesticks. Fear they must have been sold at the Sale. What a nuisance! Thanks for congratulations on anniversary of consecration, wishes someone else had had the honour.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)11-14: the sudden death of Benedict XV.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)3-7 - announcing that he is taking on the Diocese of Northampton
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Auctioneer has confirmed that the property at St Neots has been bought (£450 for building; £50 for benches, pulpit, etc.) on the day before Fr Malones departure [on a trip]. Passing contract on to Canon Tonks.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Writing from Waterford, Ireland, Fr Malone describes his father as having had a stroke. Doctor states, at 76, he may get over it but may not. Will return to England on Friday.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Asks Fr Clare to follow architect's measurements. He cannot pass drawing as it is. Tells him to bring artist to his ideas. Asks for proper drawing of new design for him to decide whether to pass it. Altar table too narrow for corporal & missal stand.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Bishop returns drawing of Altar. He does not like it; it is too like a couple of boxes. Those he showed it to thought it was a vestment chest & liked it as such. But, if Fr Clare wants it, has found money for it & subscribers like it, he can have it.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)[Not contemporary!]

Relating to the March Presbytery and rental properties: Letters from Fr W Clare (7), Fr L Allen(7), Canon Tonks(1), GF Stokes(1), AP Peacock(1), Ollard(2); Postcard from Fr Clare; Bills/invoices (15) from Insurance Co., Utilities & Councils; Agreements for construction and rent; Rent Account (1910 & 1911); Inventory (1941 - Fr Mortimer J Hanagan); Inventory (1948 - Rev W J Gaffney); Fr Gerard Collins to Bishop (Parker) - his critical survey of Chatteris house (11-7-1953).
Allen, Louis Rev (-1931)The £5 gift is for his outing - not not tell anyone else. Bishop wil also arrnage for the supply - but keep it "between ourselves". Spoken to Tonks and satisfied that the St Neots building is worth getting - limit is up to £500.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Vestments ready by Palm Sunday. Happy to see the old church (little hut) st St Neots passed to Fr Banham although he doubts it is worth it once the cost of disassembly, transport and reassembly are take into account.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Bishop is giving the patens as it is not the richest Mission. Cheque returned to be destroyed.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Do as you wish. Will not move you from St Neots at once as the people there, in their new church, will compensate for the slackness of the Huntingdon lot. Dr Hicks to keep you from overstepping the paths of prudence.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Letter: Fr Malone should deal with SV Ekins as he sees fit regarding the sale of the plot for the old church. A delay may find a better price. Included is a "line to help you with your appeal"
Blessing: Blessing for Fr Malone to ultimately redeem the debt owing due to the purchase of the Church at St Neots. He is obliged, with the Bishops authority, to seek money form a wider public. The cost for converting the Baptist Chapel was met by the Guild of Our Lady of Ransom (some £500).
Bishop has collected a number of vestments for Fr Malone - lists them.
If Fr Malone is coming up for Holy Week then he could return with them in his car - no boxes big enough to send on separately.
