Fr Guy already asked to visit next week. Mr Kenyon will explain the proposed arrangements regarding the chapel.
Kenyon, John George (1843-1914)Drank the bishop's health during luncheon at Lynford. Madame [Mrs Lyne Stephens] most charming and said she'd visit Lynn. Canon said she would not. May expect £500. Photographs taken by Fr W. were successful and Madame was pleased with the proofs.
Wrigglesworth, George Rev (1851-1900)Has received the cheque and paid Mr Bardell. Mr & Mrs Wilkin will be please to receive the bishop when he comes to Lynn. Not at the Royal Christening [of future King Edward VIII] probably due to the Prince being disappointed over the church. The Prince had said Fr Wrigglesworth should appeal to Rome.

Land owner, Mr Johnson, requires £700 instead of £500 for a piece of land of 7025 feet. One month's refusal given.
Requests for advice / dispensation for a marriage between two residents of Spain who want to be married in August.
Thanks the bishop for his Form of Application and asks if he still feels the benefits of East Coast air.
Annie Allnutt congratulates the Bishop n withholding consent to start building in Southwold. She is concerned over the low level of involvement of Mr & Mrs Crimmen in the recent visit by the Bishop, given their generosity in time and resources for the Mission. Asks the Bishop to be quite sure that Fr Mason is the right priest in the right place. Comments on his approach to certain congregation members of good standing - her own "unpardonable sin is that I advised Fr Mason some years ago to quit Southwold at once and seek a post in the Bishop's House where he would have work and supervision; he being young, full of life and animal spirits and fond of the good things in life." Comments that the building fund has not increased in years (except for the £100 donated by the Bishop) in spite of fund raising events.
CorrespondentHave spent over £40-0-0 on fixtures and fittings but not ready to provide an inventory as bills are awaited from tradesmen. £30 of which is mission property. Delighted with official announcement of Mrs Temple Layton's settlement - a welcome addition to income. Ramsey repairs continuing- - floor far worse than thought. Mission begins on Saturday - visiting every single house in Huntingdon [+4 places] looking for hidden Papists. "... great fun to see the stare and panic ... when I tell them I am a Catholic priest". Received with courtesy and politeness.
Lockyer, Frederick W Rev (-1954)Personal Loan from the Finance Board; will increase insurance policy from £75 to £100; Canon Tonks to fill in the form and send to Century Insurance in Ipswich. Not at all well. Lady Winefride has invited him to stay - so he will go one Sunday in Lent. Can the Poor Mission Fund do something for Hunstanton. "I have had a rotten time & am likely to while the war lasts & even afterwards for a time while people recover the strain on their resources."
Garnett, Ernest Edmund Rev (1872-1948)Nobody about as the works is off for 10 days and all have gone on holiday. Leaving Wellingborough for Hunstanton and will stay for a few days as full of visitors who come for daily mass. Will be discrete in sounding people out so as not to give away his real objective. If Fr Flynn is at home then why no notice posted on the church door? He thinks something is not right and will see the Bishop when he leaves. Fr Hyde can stay till he returns [at Wellingborough?]
Garnett, Ernest Edmund Rev (1872-1948)Thanks for kind wishes on his election to Abbot of Downside. Visited Beccles some weeks ago and much impressed by this beautiful church. Some day it will be a strong centre of religious life in the district.
Ramsay, Henry Havelock Leander Abbot (1863-1929)July 8 suitable for visitation to Huntingdon. Enclose rough timetable for the visit: "Confirmation - 3pm" & "Devotions - 6.30" crossed through and "Yes" annotated for "Confirmation & Benediction 6.30"
Malone, John F Rev (-1970)Sr Mary Josephine writing to thank the Bishop for his visit and wish him a truly happy Easter.
Convent of St LouisAdvisory note to the Bishop. Visited Fr Flynn and found him very much down after the "flu". Doctor suggests he gets away for a short rest.
Eeles, Charles Rev (1868-1926)W E H Bull saw Fr Flynn this week - he is ill with influenza and his nervous system is completely run down. Consider it a personal favour if the Bishop gives his request urgent consideration for Fr Flynn to have two months off for complete rest. Fr Flynn leads a lonely life and this is worse since his sister died in December.
Manuscript annotation: "Answered. as also Ketterer C report annexed"
Visited Fr Flynn, found him in a very weak condition looking an absolute wreck. Quite clear that Fr Flynn is not drinking - despite some of the comments made by others; he also takes great pride in the church and his house, again contrary to others' comments. Believes that Mr Bull was mistaking a previous condition's consequences with Fr Flynn's current situation.
Ketterer, Constantine Rev (-1940)Letter is about having a foundation at Aldeburgh with the Bishop's permission. Outlines the group's legality, number (5) and current position. The school performance; conversions of pupils / parents / family; finances (may have £350 in hand once deal done with Chatham nuns). Describes Fr Davidson's efforts to bring them to Aldeburgh. Mr Fooks has their interest at heart. Acknowledged that Mother General (Sisters of Mary congregation in Namur) may work to influence the Bishop against their work - this failed with regard to Bishop Amigo. Requests an audience with the Bishop to discuss these matters. Provides copies of the Prospectus, Last Prize Distribution and a 1922 photograph of the pupils [not available]. Suggests that their Aldeburgh Boarding School will be separate from the Day School.
Scholastica, SrHas been to Strood to see the sisters at work - impressed by them. The finances depend on the Chatham nuns buying the place as a going concern. He believes they will be successful after the first year. He mentions a "University Pilgrimage" which he thinks won't come off. He encourages the Bishop to visit to show / demonstrate solidarity with him as parish priest.
Davidson, Charles Madgwick Rev DD BADelighted to have bishop for both nights if he wishes. Fr Drage has received his Holy Oils via Fr Ketterer.
