Cheque received from Canon Hunting; will delay completion until they hear from the Bishop
Witham, Weld and CoAldeburgh Church: Have written to Fr Jolly about the options for the Tower. Note that the original architect for the tower was said by Fr Jolly not to be in business, but this is not the case. Hence there is a problem of professional etiquette and they are happy to write to Mr Reid if required to do so.
Witton Church: Noted comments on design; preliminary sketches for Board meeting on 30th [November 1954].
Confirms that the tender includes pulling the tower down and roofing it over. The architect will be interviewing Reade about extras. Bill intends the Leiston money to be borrowed. Anxious to complete the job before bad weather. Bill & Christine [?] in Scotland and writer will report on Bill taking up duties. Fr Lunley is very sick man - wherever he goes he will need someone liken Mrs Hebb (Bill's housekeeper) as his memory is quite unreliable. As for chapel here [Holy Family and St Michael's, Kesgrave ?] cannot use it its unfinished state but expects it to be in order by September 24 - parishioners best able to come on that date. You will approve of addition in appearance.

Thomson, David C Rev (-1998)Mass at Leiston fine - no breakfast. Assist at 11am Mass in Aldeburgh and preach after Mass to give you the opportunity to get breakfast prior to the Visitation. Glad to be able to inaugurate the Guild of St Felix on Tuesday
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Suggest Aldeburgh visitation at 6.30pm before Confirmation as it's a bit of a strain to get to Leiston and back in time to do it all again at 11 in Aldeburgh.
Davidson, Charles Madgwick Rev DD BABishops suggests an informal Visitation at Leiston; formal at Aldeburgh.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Fr John Smith writes to say that the Visitation scheduled for 16 April [1978] will now take place on 19 November 1978, following Fr Thomson's willingness to reschedule.
Bishop's OfficeFr Davidson thanks the Bishop for his kindness during the Visitation. Sends a £38 cheque for expenses.
Thomson, David C Rev (-1998)Bishop thinks the programme is excellent. One request. He wishes to administer a Baptism in Brantham on 14 October (part of St Mark's parish, Ipswich). Ann has organised well and arranged supper on Saturday with John & Pauline Matthias - are you coming too?
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Regarding the alterations and extensions recently carried out at the church in Aldeburgh: inspection for faults as end of six-month maintenance period. Invite new priest to do the same. Have also written to Fr Jolly with enclosed copy of letter to builder.
