Thanks Bishop for kind letter, also for promising to make her payments until she can repay. Her agent has given many of the stamps (Adoration of the Maji) away and she has only 1000 sheets of 16 available to sell. Met Cardinal Gasquet (then Abbot) and he seem interested in them. The proceeds of the sale would be for the March Mission.

Envies him having only £18 interest to pay; she has to pay £200. She is offered £5000 less for her property than before the war. Comments on his garden & the war.

Acknowledges Bishop's letter. He had only written to Mrs Ten Broeck yesterday. Thanks him for Harrington's name. Summarises instalments received from 1914. Gives details of good Christmas Mass.

Assured him of no urgency re papers Bishop sent him. He has no idea of size of Estate or amount of legacies. Has cabled partner to contact Couderts Bros & enter formal appearances in proceedings on behalf of Bishop & Fr Allen.

He has received a copy of Mrs Ten Broeck's Will which was admitted to probate on Dec 9th 1919. Gathers bequest to Bishop of £2600 sterling is effective as she built no church in March before her death. Real estate worth $60, 000 is subject to mortgage.

Re Will of Mrs Ten Broeck. Enclosed letter from Mrs T. B. asking Diocese to undertake promises to Fr Allen. Gives details of her original promise, the degree of her fulfilment & amount owing Diocese. Bequest to March is generous but will not reimburse Diocese.

Mrs Ten Broeck's letter asking Diocese to pay £125/yr to March for unexpired period of her undertaking has been found. New York Commission now "closed" so letter may not be used as evidence. Sends enclosures showing he did his best.

Sends document re Mrs Ten Broeck. Asks him to fill in information re clauses in proof of claim. Asks him to give his opinion on various statements. All at request of Bishop of Northampton

Re Mrs Ten Broeck. Gives details of her payments & debts to diocese. Presumes it will be alright to say original agreement was made with him although he has no proof of it. He can find no letters referring to payments earlier than December 1912.

Enclosed Cheque for £1000 being sale price of March Presbytery & land. Asks him to send cheque to Ollard. Thinks Canon forgot to tell Ollard about sending money to him. Found by chance that new presbytery being built. Money came promptly when Fr Clare told off.

His action on cheques to Ollard. The stained glass windows arrived yesterday but no candlesticks. Fear they must have been sold at the Sale. What a nuisance! Thanks for congratulations on anniversary of consecration, wishes someone else had had the honour.

Asking him to act as agent for diocese in sale of two houses in March which are property of diocese. Diocese prepared to sell if he can secure £1600. If sold, would Fr Clare be able to stay in his house, and if so, for how long?

They have spoken to Auctioneers & Valuers re sale of houses. £1600 likely to be made if sold by auction; advise reserve of £1400. Gives value of both houses and plot of land. Asks if they may proceed. See back of p2 for reply [March 38b]

Bishop says lowest overall price he can accept is £1500. Plans enclosed; Bishop asks them to review if the proposed new building will be more serviceable than present arrangements.
Fr Clare will have to take lodgings in March if necessary.

Encloses bill for fence from Turner. Work is satisfactory. Any news yet re proposed presbytery. Hopes Tonks received plans, etc. in good time as he sent the by Express letter on the 17th, the day before Chapter Meeting

Ollard away so has no time to see to Diocesan business. Neighbour would have bought property at high price but commercial restrictions against him building the shop he intended. He is sending another man to see Ollard about buying.

As Church of March is dedicated to Our Lady & St Peter would Bishop allow Exposition of Blessed Sacrament with Procession at Benediction on Sunday in octave of St Peter & Paul & Sunday in octave of Assumption? Bishop annotated reply: "Yes, but not procession of Blessed Sacrament out of doors".

Re property at March. £1400 is far in excess of real value. It will be difficult to get above £1150 for the 2 houses & land. Asks if he will consider offer around figure named when he will do his best to effect an early sale.
