UnknownFr Phillips is informing the Bishop of two properties he would like to buy. There are plots of land available outside the town but these two are in the centre and offer the best possible site for Church and Presbytery. Whilst he is not certain that he could obtain either he asks for permission to try. He offers options and has identified another house which could serve as a presbytery opposite to the site he is interested in. He has spoke at length with the Vicar-General today.
Pages 3 & 4 are a location plan and property particulars respectively.
[Property A, on Middleton St., is half of Caius House, a well built gentleman's residence converted to a dwelling and two shops. Property B, at junction of Church St. and Market St., is a pre-reformation Guild Chapel in good state but no roof. ]

Notes on the organisation of the Church fete on 4 July 1959. Lt Col JWA Ollard to open. To include - display by Dancing School, Baby Show, lucky programme, 2 or 3 draws. Dance in Hall (2 shillings entrance) (appeal for more modern records). Prizes include - Guess the weight cake, Chicken, 50 Cigarettes, Whisky, Fruit Basket, Sherry, sports prizes.
UnknownNo decision on the land this week. Currently Post Office has bid for nearly half of the land and the feeling is that people want a new Post Office. Fr Phillips' bid has been dropped without checking that an increased bid would be made. But £700 might be enough to secure the entire site. Asks should he bid the full amount, and, would half the site be enough? This is too good to miss being right in the middle of town. Includes a plan of the land between Middleton Street and Back Lane - identifies a Fives Court in top NE corner.
