Covering letter for a more detailed memo and photocopies of Halsbury Laws 4th Edition 1080 of Vol 14.
Head, Adrian Herbert Judge (rtd) (1923-2012)Original signed agreement with 6 sections for the governance of the Parish of St Henry Walpole, Burnham Market
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Churchwarden & Rector would prefer an outright free gift of the church. However, Church Commissioners prefer a full repairing lease with a peppercorn rent - their general policy. Is this acceptable?
Blackburne, Hugh Rev (1912-1995)Comments very helpful. Next time must avoid delays; make firm decisions to avoid costs rising all the time. Might be a good situation for a church sharing scheme - however have not mentioned this to Fr Richmond nor Rev Isaacson - doubt that they'd want to start over again.
Blackburne, Hugh Rev (1912-1995)Share the sadness that these negotiations have fallen through, but can understand why. Can Bishop Clark comment on whether he'd have taken a different view if things had been different? The transfer of St Mary's in Thetford is going ahead satisfactorily on the basis of a lease.
manuscript ps: hoped Bishop Clark had a happy time at Ely Cathedral for the ecumenical service.
Thanking Adrian Head for the time and trouble spent in puzzling out the options for All Saints. Its a shame that legal obstacles thwart the gift of the church to the catholic community.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Sensitive to the generosity of the Diocesan Pastoral Committee and the Rector and people of Burnham. The project died quietly and the material burden of the lease made it almost inevitable that a halt would be called to the project. Thetford is going well - a larger community helps!
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Reference to the Church Commissioners' letter to Rev Isaacson. Have to withdraw from the leasing project. The terms of the lease, as his advisers say, would place too great a financial burden on a small parish. Thanks the Bishop for his sensitivity during this time and is encouraged by the close bond of friendship and understanding between the two communities at Burnham Market.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Apoligise for the delay in replying - have been in Rome, etc. Need to consult with turstees - normally disinclined unless a property is freehold. Can imaging the disappointment of the Anglican community.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Writing to Rev R B Higgins, USAF, Catholic Chaplain at RAF Lakenheath
Granting Fr Richmond permission to assist USAF chaplaincy at Scunthorpe [sic] [Sculthorpe] and testifies he is a valid priest.
Apologises for his "silly joking" - no idea where he got the idea that Fr Arthur was "on the road to Massingham". Hopes Fr Arthur will be with us for a long time.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Sorry to lose Fr Malecki but happy to welcome Fr Waters. The continuing "contribution" of the Salvatorians is much appreciated.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Pleased Fr Malecki is to replace Fr Richmond at Burnham Market.
Regarding Blakeney (Fr Weaver is in agreement) - Fr Malecki to be Priest-in-Charge; Responsibility to include marriages, funerals, etc; Blakeney remain part of Walsingham/Wells parish but pastoral care transferred to Burnham Market; house at Blakeney to be looked after by the local Catholic committee.
Hope that Georgio can offer Mass there in a week's time.
Clergy deployment in East Anglia a bit opened compared to the Provincial's need for tidiness. Would like Fr Malecki to provide Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation masses at Blakeney; noting he prefers not to take over Blakeney until he knows his commitments to Burnham.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Distressed to learn of Fr Arthur's withdraw from Burnham Market. Welcomes Fr Richmond back, Glad the Salvatorians are honouring the agreement for pastoral care of the parish.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Form letter from Bishop Clark - enlosed [not present] arrived just as leaving for Rome and too late for inclusion in the Ad Clerum. Alarmed that deanery priests may not be aware - please distribute.
manuscript notes showing places ticked: Hunstanton, Burnham Market, Swaffham, Downhan Market, Fakenham, Wells, Wisbech
Sorry to lose Fr Richmond; happy to go along with his and the Provincials plans. Thanks him for his valiant service to the people of Burnham Market and Sculthorpe. Looks forward to welcoming Fr Victor [sic] Arthur SDS
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Apologises for delay in responding. Tried to phone Fr Richmond to see if he had the actual map for the boundaries. Fr Hammond's letter gives the geographical data. Happy that the Salvatorians are working with us on this.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Encloses [not present] the draft agreement for review - if acceptable then will make a fair copy for signature. Have anticipated there being a Bishop of East Anglia to be the co-signatory by then.
