Covering letter for 1934/5 accounts highlighting a £25 deficit. However Fr Ketterer has a scheme to put it right, but if the Diocese is willing to clear the debt then he'd be happy. Regarding the land - no news yet, not even an acknowledgement of the offer.
Ketterer, John Joseph Rev SJ (-1973)Fr Ketterer provides the accounts (set out in the bottom half of the page) for the half year saying it has been a heavy time and no increase in income. With the new house and premises he hopes to have a more favourable balance by October. His deficit is £35.19.9
Ketterer, John Joseph Rev SJ (-1973)Received the cheque to defray his deficit. Has an idea about getting everyone to help as the collections at the two churches are very good. Still no news about the land.
Ketterer, John Joseph Rev SJ (-1973)The financial state of the Mission is such that it may not be meeting its bills by the end of this quarter. Fr Ketterer provides estimates for repairs: chimney re-pointing, making roof watertight. He asks to send a statement at the end of the month to demonstrate his care.
Ketterer, John Joseph Rev SJ (-1973)No decision on the land this week. Currently Post Office has bid for nearly half of the land and the feeling is that people want a new Post Office. Fr Phillips' bid has been dropped without checking that an increased bid would be made. But £700 might be enough to secure the entire site. Asks should he bid the full amount, and, would half the site be enough? This is too good to miss being right in the middle of town. Includes a plan of the land between Middleton Street and Back Lane - identifies a Fives Court in top NE corner.
Ketterer, John Joseph Rev SJ (-1973)Fr Ketterer has tenders the bids as advised by Canon Tonks and may yet meet the trustees of the land. As they meet rarely it could be some months' wait.
Ketterer, John Joseph Rev SJ (-1973)Unable to meet the bills for the last quarter. Supporting statement provided. His economy will not help if the congregation cannot do more. Comparing his situation with that of Fr Phillips in the account book, he notes that their expenses are about the same. Hating to admit failure he has to write hoping Canon Tonks will make his "failure - a victory!"
Ketterer, John Joseph Rev SJ (-1973)Fr Ketterer thanks Monsignor (Canon Tonks?) for advising of the purchase of "The "Elms". Will make contact later about going there.
The letter is also a covering note for his last quarter's accounts of which the car seems to "lap up money", although he rarely travels outside of his district.
Writes to Monsignor (assumed to be Canon Tonks): Receipt for Bishop's generous gift to the Mission enclosed. Post Office has acquired the piece of meadow, rendering the site too narrow for Church & Presbytery. Describes the nature of planned expansion in Wymondham. Has identified a site 10 minutes walk from current address. Has obtained pews & chairs for the two churches in Wymondham and Dereham. Increased seating accommodation, more dignified and silent when congregation sit or stand.
Ketterer, John Joseph Rev SJ (-1973)Writes to Monsignor (assumed to be Canon Tonks): Has "move in" but still to get order out of chaos. Painters to finish on Wednesday. Needs estimates from Canon to check on the work being done. Furnishing achieved and is fairly comfortable. Asks for advance of £40 to pay the painter who is doing a good job.
Ketterer, John Joseph Rev SJ (-1973)Writes to Monsignor (assumed to be Canon Tonks): Estimates for work already done. Describes additional work and work in wake (chimney and guttering made good and watertight). Additional charge of £9 for the greenhouse; painter done an extra small room and other work for free.

Writing from Norwich Presbytery (currently helping out), Fr Philips restates the contents of his letter of 30-3-1928 to Canon Tonks. House adjoining his Church has been offered to him, he has accepted it. Can manage with his present funds but not to buy furniture he asks the Bishop to grant £50 for Mission furniture, or, give permission to appeal via Catholic newspapers for furniture.
Manuscript annotation: "Arranged with Canon Tonks your funding to write you giving permission to rent house next Church and to send you £50 for furniture. Apr 19 / 28."
Last grant received was in Nov 1927 (£50 for finishing Presbytery). He is overdrawn and has several accounts which will not be paid.
Manuscript annotation: "Hope the £50 reached you safely. Feb 22 / 29"
He has received the £50 Canon Tonks sent and has been advised that his case will be heard in March. The £50 should be enough for this year if his dividends are as expected in the Autumn.
Phillips, Thomas Kemp Rev (1883-1947)Had written to Canon Tonks about the Wymondham Financial Statement. Asking for £20 because the Bank Account is overdrawn to that amount.
Manuscript annotation: "Sent £20 to extinguish overdraft. Oct 26 / 27."
