"Fr Anthony Foreman, a retired diocesan priest, has published a book on the intriguing medieval history of Lidgate, the Suffolk village where he lives. Lidgate, which is in the Newmarket parish, boasts the remains of a Roman villa, a Norman castle and was the birthplace of John de Lydgate, the famous medieval poet and monk of Bury Abbey. He presented a copy of his life of St Edmund to King Henry V on his visit to the abbey." Story continues.

Part of Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish, King's Lynn

James [?] has written to the PPs at King's Lynn and Newmarket regarding pipe organs.
King's Lynn: Fr Wace's intention to replace a pipe organ with an electronic instrument is not welcome and he should ask for the writer to visit him to discuss the matter.
Newmarket: Fr Kennedy is aware that the matter is not that urgent and he could have a small but adequate pipe organ - thus avoiding the uneccessary step of installing an electroinc organ. Fr Kennedy is contacting Millar Organ Company of Norwich for a loan of an electroinnc instrument.

Apologising for missing Maundy Thursday Mass - Ceolfrid's death and others in Beccles with a number possibly dying - makes it difficult to leave Beccles just yet. However, will be with the Bishop in Newmarket in May. Don't need propping up nor a good "propper". Fr Tony Roberts seems to be a dying man.

"A 57-strong group of mostly young diocese of East Anglia pilgrims spent almost two weeks at World Youth Day in Portugal, having a fun, joyful and life-enriching time. Before leaving the UK, the group had a Sending Mass at Our Lady Immaculate and St Etheldreda in Newmarket, where Bishop Peter Collins said: 'It is the duty of the young to show enthusiasm, to be filled with vigour, physically and spiritually'". Part of St Benet's Minster Parish, Beccles

Fr Hypher has returned to Southampton. Asking about the management of the various moves being planned - who has been told, when and about what? Particularly wishes to handle the changes at Beccles to properly explain the situation to the parish there. He has spoken to Tony Rogers [and another Tony] who agree that an announcement soon would be best.

Fine for Mr Nicholls to check out the building - but do not like the idea of him being the architect for a rebuild - does want him to be misemployed carrying out his "fads". Prefers Mr Lunn as he knows the site.
p.s. Mr Hains of Newmarket is dangerously ill and asks for a prayer from the Bishop.

Part of Northampton Diocesan Travelling Mission - Fr McCormick

Mrs Dora Cowton writes. Have received the photographs and will add them to the Travelling Mission notes already held. Provides dimensions for the altar with a description. Fr Fears cannot explain how the altar came to be in Brandon. The previous priest Fr Ivan Rudkin has died; Fr Antony Philpot was PP at Bury St Edmunds and served Brandon, which was also served from Newmarket where Fr Peter Leeming was one of the priests - should she write to them?
