Mossey, John J Rev Hon. CF (-1995)Writing to Myles Osborne (Diocesan Financial Administrator): Clarifying the position with regard to the Estates Funds and the ability to retain Church, Presbytery and House. Necessary to meet tax liabilities consequently the House (40 Manor Road) will have to be sold but need the Bishop's urgent consent to proceed.
Berry & Walton (1983-2018)Miss Insley, deceased, left £900 for foundation masses for John Hickman (not deceased) and herself. Please confirm acceptance of the gift on behalf of the Diocese.
Berry & Walton (1983-2018)He has given his blessing for Fr Flynn to go to Dersingham. He can be on loan to Bishop Clark for a period of one or two years and then consider the process of excardination.
Browne, Denis George Rev (1937-)Writing to a "Dr Ibbett" to apply for non-fasting communion for:
- an old lady of 89
- a Sister who has to take nourishment during the night
Fr Beauchamp: A "Secret and Confidential" Government communication was received by an aerodrome chaplain. What has been received from Catholic HQ?
My man destroyed the letter and resigned as chaplain- better if he had stayed, refused to comply, been dismissed, and we could have had a little row about it!
Please advise on consensus so I could use it to benefit other less distinguished Chaplains.
A terse letter to Fr Heptonstall regarding the "Secret and Confidential" Government communication: unwise to burn it; over hasty action - should have conferred with RC Chaplain at Halton to establish common response; common sense to send it to your superior - i.e. the Bishop; you cannot afford to undertake work "free gratis for nothing" better to state you cannot comply, instead of a "retirement stunt"; acted too much on impulse - a little habit of yours which does not help and gets you into trouble; your position would have been strengthened if you had taken the same line as others.
Bishop will write to Fr Beauchamp to establish the line the Catholic Chaplains are taking.
Small cheque enclosed for 8 masses with special intentions.
Faculties for Fr Sproule granted, including for the nuns if required. Send names of the two ladies and the Bishop will contact Rome. Invitation to stay tempting, but too full up for now. Sorry no intentions - see if he can invent some. St Neots opening was nice but cruel hard luck for the enforced absence of Fr Malone.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)leave for non-fasting communion permission for Mrs Emmaline Ann Shauve. Tax to pay 5/1 (23 lira) to be sent to the Bishop for forwarding to Rome.
Nothing for Sister Huberta, presumably gone to another congregation for the Religious.
Leave for non-fasting communion permission for Sister Huberta. Tax to pay 2/- (8 lira) to be sent to the Bishop for forwarding to Rome. This is unlimited use but only for times of illness.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Bickerdike was one of many excluded when the Beati list was winnowed from 250 as over 100 were turned down - perhaps later. Be careful about managing the fund (permission granted) and keep the monies for building/support separate from other monies. Recognise the need in such missions to harvest in-season to weather the off-season. Take care about the Squire - he has to change his ways before being received into the church. Exhortation to be prudent, discipline of a "common sense hardness".
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Sending all Parishes with a connection to any of the 136 recently beatified English Martyrs, a copy of the picture displayed at St Peter's on 15 December. Two for Hunstanton: Bl. Henry Walpole (born in Docking and martyred on 7 April 1595) and Bl. Thomas Tunstall (martyred 13 July 1616) (provides a short history)
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Glad to hear Fr Heptonstall was not seriously injured in the accident. Sisters' Confessions are permitted provided a screen is rigged up between him and the penitent. Very few sea coast resort priests can get away during their season - so permission for a private retreat. Enclosed small cheque [for £5] for 10 masses for private intentions.
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Covering letter for the letter from Fr Beauchamp - pity Fr Heptonstall was so precipitate in his actions, but driven by the best intentions and shared indignation about the Government's actions
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)manuscript copy of a receipt sent to the solicitors for the sum of £152.
additional note: "Receipt in this form sent for the pro rata 'legacy'. Feb 21/24."
To Dersingham Trustee (Stuart Grant): usual for the Bishop to decide on dedication. Must admit to being puzzled by the large vote for Sts Peter and Paul.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Dersingham group want Fr Flynn at Dersingham. Suggests that they will issue a formal invitation but will need to deal with immigration matters.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Letting the people of Dersingham know and they will weigh the facts to decide whether to invite Fr Flynn.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)A Rev Peter B Flynn has been identified by the Trustees of Dersingham as a potential [temporary] priest for their town. Describes the priest, his address and the understanding of his wish to return to either Ireland or England. Bishop Clark asks for the Bishop of Auckland's, New Zealand, comments.
