Letter to Bishop Parker describing state of Chatteris property which he visited "on my way home". Generally poor condition with much damp in the walls. Mr Dodds , Clerk of the Council and Secretary of the Friends Meeting Society (who are selling the chapel - valued at £250) showed him around and admitted no repairs done for 17 years. Builder in contention to buy would probably out bid the church. Canon Malone & Canon Hunting agree that they should not proceed further. So has stopped a bid and put Withams on standby. Fr Collins could not contact Fr Gaffney by telephone.
Collins, Gerard A RevFr Fennell referring to Bishop Parker's request to forward Outline Plannng Permission information. Suggestion by a land agent that a wooden structure from Haverhill might be erected in the site - but this has nothing to do with the existing planning application for a permanent church. Issue over payment of legal fees, needed to raise it with Messrs Witham Weld & Co. Left to solicitor's discretion on whether to proceed about this, but Fr Fennell considers it a minor matter which might jeopardise the sale.
Fennell, John Rev (1929-1977)Moorcraft (Bishop's Secretary) saying Bishop is OK with the proposal and he therefore forwards the deeds for him to deal with Witham Weld. John Fennel has looked at the deeds and the question raised has been sorted out despite the deeds not being clear.
Moorcraft, Gerald William Rev (1936-2011)Diocese prepared to swap land with former owner of its land. Fr O'Toole drew up a plan, enclosed, as are deeds.
Moorcraft, Gerald William Rev (1936-2011)Having looked for the Deeds in the Deeds cabinet at Bishop's House marked St Neots and not found them. Should search extend to all other deed envelopes in case St Neots' were misfiled? Provides addresses for two previous parish priests. Unlikely they will have much to offer on this subject.
Moorcraft, Gerald William Rev (1936-2011)Fr O'Toole advising Witham Weld that he has the deeds for when the County Council get in touch regarding a strip of land to be exchanged for access to highway with no charge.
O'Toole, Laurence RevFr O'Toole informing Bishop of his proposal for the offer of land in exchange for access points to highway for church car parking. (Free of charge). Asks if he may instruct Witham & Weld.
O'Toole, Laurence RevInspected dwelling; not likely to sell - poor condition, size, character; District Clerk considers an application to demolish and redevelop would be received well; deeds mislaid?; auction sale estimate is £6,000
