Surprised that the Timothy Matthews project had no contact with anyone. Finally forwarding cheque from Poor Clare community in USA. David Jennings accepted for September training. Looking forward to ordaining Peter Rollings in July in Middlesborough

Ordination applicants need to be in full communion for a while before Rome considers them. Outstanding matter needs to be addressed prior to the other becoming a candidate. Need to consider the reader's future role carefully. Chris Toller will be in touch with Paul Hirons about the bungalow soon.

"The Vatican has granted permission for another former Anglican clergyman, a married man, to be ordained priest in the Roman Catholic Church." Mr. John Heley was CofE vicar at St Edmund's Hunstanton.
Permission had also been given for two other former Anglican ministers earlier in the year.

Deacon Matthews is doing his best; Fr Ryan is an old man and cannot supply at all 9.30 Masses. Deacon Matthews is under great strain - he collapsed while at the Convent in Massingham; we are worried for his health. Why are married convert priests ordained into the Catholic priesthood but married convert deacons are not?

"For the third time in two months, the Pope has given permission for a former Anglican priest to be ordained as a Catholic priest." Comment from Peter Cornwall, one of the earlier priests referred to. Comment by the author on celibacy in the priesthood.

Making a case for the ordination of Cyril Banham to be held in Beccles rather than the Bishop's preferred place in Norwich. Opportunity to influence the people of Beccles through the ceremony and Bishop's presence and to support two potential boys for priesthood. Fr Campbell can arrange for five priests for certain and with the Bishop's MC that makes six. Enough surely?
manuscript annotation: "Answered. It is all a matter of priests. Norwich has 6 to begin with. But Beccles has the prior claim if you can get the necessary no. of priests. Fr Squirrell is the MC for the diocese in your parts. Get a hold of him & let him tell you how many priests are required. Please don't let Beccles think itself in disgrace! Jan 13/26."

Thanking the bishop for card sent on his 11th anniversary [of ordination into Catholic Church]. Both Bishop Clark and Bishop Smith have been very patient and sympathetic to ex-Anglicans. Suggests send in a brochure to every boy and girl in the diocese on their 14th birthday. This would promote the idea of a religious life. Cites his own example of being in the Navy and not thinking of such a life until the chaplain asked him, dismissed it out of hand, but a few years later left the Navy and entered an Anglican seminary.

Questioning the status of particular (potential) ordinations for married men. Southwell House has problems and the local authority is involved - problems relate specifically to its management. Issues around a reader who "declaims St Paul like a Shakespearian soliloquy".
Thanks for letting Paul & Joan have the bungalow at Blakeney. His status as a Deacon for the parish or Walsingham?
