Details of consecration of the church; short prayer on reverse.
McBride, Edward Rev (1919-2011)History of the Guild's connection with the Red Mount Chapel - Leo XIII in blessing the Guild directed that the shrine of Walsingham be at the nearest catholic church - King's Lynn. The previous Master, Fr Fletcher, used the chapel as a rallying point for pilgrimages - and for those opposing Bishop Parker. 1951 Mgr Goulding transferred the pilgrimage back to Walsingham - the controversy is now buried after all these years. But, Red Mount Chapel was included in a number of the Guild's pilgrimages.
Goulder, Laurance Rev (-1969)Sorry to be obliged to withdraw Sr M Austin and Sr M Casimir. Not prepared to take on any new work and could not staff an aided Secondary Modern School. The Bishop had asked that they keep on the 13 girls in the senior department when they wanted to close it.
Sammons, Francis Ethelbert Clowes Rev (1925-1975)Mr Butler, an Architect, has not yet met the Bishop but has met his two predecessors. when at Burnham Overy, Norfolk. A year ago Fr Ketterer asked him to Wymondham. Mr Butler has subsequently spent many hours designing a church for Wymondham and for Dereham (a particularly difficult site). This he did for a token fee of £10 paid by Fr Ketterer. Mr Butler designed the church at Wells-next-the-Sea. He now understands that the Bishop is not pleased but he has no intelligence of what has happened to his design work since sending it off. This is not about pride, but as an architect with experience in Churches, Country homes, Oxford Colleges and monuments, he would like to know what is happening; perhaps a little recognition and hope that the plans are not lost.
Butler, Arthur Stanley George Mr (1888-1965)The situation arises out of private arrangements for the convenience of the parents in getting their children to Beccles school and the need for the county to re-tender for the contract of transportation. This highlighted the local arrangements and the increase in the cost of providing a larger coach .
Canon Brewer's manuscript annotation: "My Lord Bishop / This would seem to be a case for help form the CEC [Catholic Education Council] / Parents do something / Parish must contribute something / CEC would pay the balance. / What do you advice? ATB."
writing from 89 Elizabeth Street SW1: Discussion on the need to align various bishops around a set of initiatives on the General School Front which is reaching a turning point. Need to ensure Bp Parker is on board. Mentions Under Secretary for Schools, Sir Percival Waterfield (retired, HM Treasury), Sylvia Goodfellow, Bishop of Salford.
Men are now in the priest's house at Beccles turning it into the new school - be in before Winter.

CorrespondentParishioners write to Bishop to express their regret that Fr Cowan [sic] is being taken away and the manner of his removal. The letter expresses their affection for him and good work he has done in the area. 61 signatures. [PTO at bottom of page but nothing further available]
ParishionerPetition from priests within the Diocese. The ordering of the Mass in the vernacular makes the prior use of the Latin Mass seem "something shameful". Sets out an argument for being given permission to say Mass before a congregation, including that the majority of the laity want to adore and less to be taught when at Mass.

Pleased to hear from Canon Thomson that agreement has been reached for the garages. Mr Green, a local Contractor, will construct them. Please provide the deeds to support the lease and plans
Singleton & CoAdvises Fr Thomson on answers to questions raised by planners. Notes that Southwold is the suggested exemplar but notes that concrete construction has moved on in the years since it was built. But, so long as the prices is reasonable and it keeps out the rain he will leave it to the builder. The solicitors suggested by Bishop Parker have been to see Bishop Grant and all is well with the lease.

UnknownSister M Margarita OSM (Headmistress, St Mary's School, Church Lane) writes independently of Fr Ketterer and describes the need for sufficient school space for the Catholic children of the area. The LEA has provided teachers and equipment readily enough and it is projected that a further teacher (no. five) will be required in a year or two. Can not see how the secular authorities are supporting the school whilst the religious authorities do not. Can Fr Brewer provide an explanation?
