Kearney, Nicholas Rev , MA, Mag Theol, Lic PhilProgramme for Visitation on 28 November. Opportunity to have tea with John Major MP. Social arranged to meet the parishioners. Concern about access to catholic education in the locality; also, running a "key catechist" programme at distant venues (nearest being at Thetford, is hard for people with work and family commitments.
Kearney, Nicholas Rev , MA, Mag Theol, Lic PhilThanks the Bishop for his card on the occasion of Fr Kerby's Ordination anniversary. So many years have passed - he still feels liek a beginner.
The planning application has been deferred for a month. Main objection is car parking space and increased congestion outside.
Fr Kerby can fit in a holiday in the first weeks of July and hence will miss the bishop's Silver Jubilee celebrations. Will offer a mass on 15 July for the bishop's intentions.
Kerby, Raymond Rev (?-2009)Bishop has agreed to attend St Ives for Confirmation on 14 January 1996. Confirmation Mass is to be held at 2.30pm since 11am Mass in their small church would be crowded and uncomfortable. Offers lunch to the Bishop (manuscript annotation: lunch circled and "Yes Noon"). Fr Kerby has to be at Swavesey for a 4.30pm Mass. Mentions 30 children for Confirmation - under instruction since September, not all attend regularly, parents are good practising Catholics.
Kerby, Raymond Rev (?-2009)Thanking Bishop for dealing with Padre Pio matter. Lucian, Romanian seminarian at Oscott, wants to take a 1 year M Phil at Birmingham University. Not being an "EC" student, the course fees are £6000 and the college will only pay £2000. Lucian's efforts to gain additional funding have not worked. Fr Kerby, considering St Ives is well off, asks if they could pay £2000 to assist? This degree would help Lucian in Romania as he'd be qualified to teach.
Kerby, Raymond Rev (?-2009)Fr Kerby thanks the Bishop for consenting to him contributing to Lucian's University Fees. Also includes Lucian's postcard expressing his gratitude.
Kerby, Raymond Rev (?-2009)Thanks the Bishop for the card marking the 34 years since Fr Kerby's ordination. All well during Holy Week & Easter - Sunday Masses particularly full - a good core of people who have the interests of the parish very much at heart. Thanks to the ladies, the Church looked splendid on Easter morning with a great amount of flower arrangements. Apologises for not providing warm water, soap and a towel - will do better next time - in October.
Kerby, Raymond Rev (?-2009)Fr Kerby is looking forward to meeting James Fyfe. He has written to the South American couple explaining the situation and to say they are welcome to use the front room in the Presbytery, if they wish to have somewhere to stay. Lucian ?, the Romanian is back in Romania and is waiting for his M Phil results from Birmingham University. He is still not ordained, his bishop is taking exception to him getting married, despite being of the Eastern rite.
Kerby, Raymond Rev (?-2009)Parishioner (Catherine McCarthy) in hospital and concerned the bishop might call at her home and waste his journey. Her mother's funeral went well and Fr Kerby thanks Bishop Smith & Bishop Clark for their support in these trying times.
Kerby, Raymond Rev (?-2009)Fr Kerby is encouraging the Bishop to write in support of the planning application recently submitted to Huntingdon DC for the church hall. Fr Kerby is encouraging parishioners to do the same. He encloses a copy of the plan (North, South and West elevations only).
Kerby, Raymond Rev (?-2009)Fr Kerby only remembered the cheque after the Bishop had driven off. "Sorry about that!" Mention of a decisive meeting happening in Huntingdon this evening.
Kerby, Raymond Rev (?-2009)Fr Kerby provides a full & detailed list of Mass times over the two days for the visitation on 11-13 October 1996.
(manuscript annotation - crossing out 12/10/96: 4.15 Confessions; 13/10/96: 4.30pm Mass and 6pm Benediction; "leave after Lunch"). Two parishioners are recent converts and would like the Bishop to confirm them. Fr Kerby will be saying 6.30 Mass at Royal Anglian Regiment, Oakington. Mr & Mrs Barker have been Parish Treasurer and Secretary respectively and worked for the parish for many years. Fr Kerby asks to a Diocesan Medal for them both.
The Pare Pio group in Papworth would like the Bishop to endorse their foundation certificate to be officially recognised.
Fr Kerby writing to Huntingdon DC, Mrs P Newbon, Chair, in support of the proposed church hall planning application recently submitted. Bishop Smith supports the endeavour and his Parish chair, Mrs Daphne Reid has also written concerning local objections. He neds that the hall will be a benefit to the neighbourhood, parish and town.
Kerby, Raymond Rev (?-2009)Update on Fr Josaphat. Having spoken to Fr Shannon in Yarmouth, he took him on for a trial period of two years. He is very pleased with his presence in the parish, he is eager to work, very jolly and kind to the parishioners. It is good for Nigerians to have one of their own priests, As the trial is coming to an end he is disposed to allowing him to see out his remaining two years of his visa in this parish.
Langridge, Stephen RevEncloses a clipping from The Independent - A letter from the Anglican Bishops about the Moral Policy on Iraq. They have done some clear thinking on the moral problems of war in the Middle East. Fr Lloyd wishes his own hierarchy would say something.
Lloyd, Thomas Rev CP (1932-1998)Would like to return to retreat work and so intends to leave Blakeney at end of June.
Clare Richards is retiring from teaching. She and her husband are friends and Fr Lloyd says there may be a celebration at Sion Convent in Notting Hill (the site of the old Corpus Christi).
Thanks the Bishop for the grant of £1000 towards the £2000 to rewire the house. Able to raise £1000 for the Church electrics last year - so expects to do the same again. Will write to Mgr Stark about how the money will be spent.
Lloyd, Thomas Rev CP (1932-1998)Invitation to a get-together at the Priest's House in Blakeney to thank all those who have helped. Not lavish - nibbles and drink and chat. Thanks for the Ransom Guild cheque - make him feel quite rich. Encloses an outline of discussions on the Common Good.
Lloyd, Thomas Rev CP (1932-1998)Arrangements over meeting to discuss future of Fr Lloyd and Blakeney. Not yet told the congregation, but the Parish Committee are aware. Agree with common sense remarks about Clare Richards.
