£300 loan from Mr Dwyer was made with an agreement that he could draw on it as he deposited it when he was in hospital with a collapsed lung. His wife and children would not have received National Assistance had it not been spent. Now discharged and fit for light work.

Thanks for appointment to Gorleston - hard to leave Southwold. Financial position regarding the debt at Halesworth. No outstanding debt on the church; need to repay the £1580 loan received from parishioners. Canon Hunting and he have made arrangements for money to be paid [regarding general interest] amounting to £300 per year without troubling Fr Rudd. £60-£70 in the bank with an average collection of £9 between now and Christmas.
McBride, Edward Rev (1919-2011)£300 loan from Mr Dwyer was under special condition. Will enquire about it. If £76-11-1 was subtracted from what is owing me the rest could be paid out. But can wait another year for the £76. The widow of Dr Stephen can be contacted through his son in Lowestoft.

"Taylor" of Southwold who built the Church and Presbytery in 1914 observed that the belfry was infested by woodworm. It was treated and planks replaced by a local man for £16. Upon inspecting the Housekeeper's bedroom (she had nearly fallen through the floor) and the rest of the house he suggests that the whole place (church and house) was infested by woodworm and needed treating. He could do that for £430. Dean Canon McBride suggested that Fr Pritchard contact the Bishop to get approval to spend the money.
