Commenting on the "heresy" to be found in a course advertised in the weekly new sheet from Our Lady and the English Martyrs in Cambridge. It was run by the Diocesan education Department. The writer quotes from the course, course material and a book he bought subsequently. Considers "Informed Criticism" will demolish all belief - "surely we must have some form of indoctrination?"

He and Coelfrid enjoyed the meal and meeting Basil Hume.Mentions the Bishop's forthcoming operation; hopes the appeal will get a response in Beccles but spending nearly £6,000 on our own roof may work against it.

Suggesting that the National Pilgrimage be renamed the "Cardinal's Pilgrimage". Provides an argument for this being a development form the Cardinal's own pilgrimages to Walsingham and reserving the name National Pilgrimage for events which need to represent the Church in England. Also, there is the suggestion from a recent meeting of Shrine Directors of the need for the re-evangelisation of Europe, which a National Pilgrimage would help deliver.

Before the Bishop goes to Rome, two questions:

  1. Asking for written approval (for the archives) to confirm a verbal authority to hold the ceremony for the Anointing of the Sick during pilgrimage masses
  2. Bishop of East Anglia has authority from the Conference of Bishops to make an appeal - has anything been done?
