It is difficult to decide on which is the most economical heating scheme for Norfolk schools. The design for the school included a central heating system with a heating chamber. But this is not until a later phase. Oil-fired boilers have implications for the heating installation but if required then the extra cost would be £900 for the building and £800 for the central heating apparatus.

Further discussion on the potential for a secondary school located nearer to King's Lynn. He provided a few examples of what this may mean in terms of cost to parents and time to travel for children. Enclosed is an extract from the Managers' meeting discussion on the topic.

The letter has been triggered by the attached (copy) letter sent by Mr Sauvain (Education).
Asking for Fr Brewer to provide a best line to take. The development programme by the lEA has progressed well and to King's Lynn's advantage. Suggests that they press on with the next phase for St Martha's. Debt down to £1,000 by the end of the year.
Discusses the origins of the school and the potential for an extra teaching space. If all Catholic children went to the school then all the 160 places would be taken; Quite a few go to the Convent. The nuns are generous in reducing fees for a bright child. He continues to discuss the growth of numbers can be anticipated and the need for the extra fourth classroom.
Present numbers are just over 100.

Aletter from Mr Sauvain (Education). has been copied and the reply placed on the reverse.
Side 1: Describes the Architect's visit to St Martha's school and the concern raised about the capacity of the boiler being insufficient for the whole school. Estimates cost of heating installation to be £850. All of which would be the responsibility of the school Managers.#
Side 2: Noted that work already done has improved heating at the school. Will bring the Architect's comments to the Managers for consideration.

Official answer must come from higher up than the Managers - provide one or a line to take. Points to make - safeguard against overcrowding; need to cover for forces (Americans with large families and a higher incidence of Catholics than our own); own people send children to NC [Non-Catholic] schools are being urged to mend their ways (have had cards sent out some time ago).
