Having tried hard to improve his report, he was shocked to receive the Bishop's letter. In the four years at college he has not been able to complete any of them them due to illness: broken collar bone, appendicitis, rupture. He has a continuing desire to be a priest and will get there and asks for another chance unless the Bishop sees fit to dismiss him - "even though I am and know below the average in brains".
Manuscript annotation: "Answered. Am giving you this next term as your final chance to do better write [?] get a better report. Ap 23/26."
Bishop on leave. He will be pleased to know a replacement has been found for Fr Richmond. VG will be a near neighbour (Sheringham) so Fr Malecki can visit him for the diocesan faculties
McBride, Edward Rev (1919-2011)Divine intervention about the priest for Blakeney? Offers help from him and his wife. Arrangements for lunch to be made.
Buxton, Aubrey Leland Oakes (1918-2009)The committee have decided to press ahead and raise funds for a cloakroom and apply for planning permission. Have spoken to Fr Weaver. Fr Gerry [Langley] is back.
p.s.: has enclosed some details of his guest house which would be suitable for small retreats, etc.
Houses are difficult to come by and are expensive when available. Better to wait for land to become available and rent a house instead.
Crimmen, James (1840-1922)Despite a priest being zealous nothing can help support the growing congregation at Southwold better than an established priest. Requests the Bishop consider the services of Fr Mason for Southwold. A letter from the Bishop of 1 November 1895 required "£110 a year or £80 and a House" before placing a priest, but Mr Crimmen believes that the figures (of the collection) and the continued generosity of visitors demonstrate that this is now possible (over time).
Crimmen, James (1840-1922)Concerned about the Mission in Hunstanton and Fr Flynn's poor state of health - he is not being attended to by a doctor. Congregation anxious and troubled about being denied Mass and the sacraments and have asked her to contact the Bishop. She relates that the congregation are asking for another priest until Fr Flynn recovers.

"Cherry Hinton, Cambridge: On the feast of Saints Paul Miki and Companions (6th February), Fr Philip John was installed as the new parish priest of Saint Philip Howard.
In his homily, Bishop Alan Hopes reminded everyone that the installation of a new parish priest, is a moment of grace and a moment of challenge and opportunity both for Fr Philip and for the parish community. ..."
Appointment of Fr Olindo Cramaro to Southwold.
"The Rev Olindo Cramaro, who for the past 16 months has been a curate at St John's Roman Catholic Cathedral, has been appointed by the Bishop of East Anglia, the Rt Rev Alan Clark, as parish priest at Southwold.
Father Cramaro, a 56-year-old Italian, is to succeed Fr James Sloan, 71, who after 10 1/2 years at Southwold and 33 years as a priest, is taking complete retirement. The extensive parish has two churches, that of the Sacred Heart, Southwold, adjoining the presbytery, and St Edmunds, King and Martyr, Halesworth.
Fr Sloan, a Scot who has spent all his ministry in East Anglia, last summer sought permission to retire in favour of a younger man, but was asked to carry on as no one was then available. He is moving to Leigh-on-Sea, near Southend.
Fr Cramaro will be moving into his new home on Thursday January 26th.
Fr Cramaro came to England in October, 1958."
"Norwich: St John the Baptist Cathedral bid a sad farewell to much-loved priest Fr Arockilya Seelan on Sunday 27th January.
"Go, eat the fat, drink the sweet wine." With these words from Ezra the priest the congregation was sent out following a farewell Mass for Fr Seelan attended by over 300 people who turned out to wish him all the best for his new role and to thank him for his great contribution to St John's, particularly as chaplain at the
hospital. ..."
Note addressed to "Matthew" [Duffin, RCDEA Administrator?]: Caller, John Cozens-Hardy, says a committee has been formed to raise funds and make improvements for the church - Fr Langley is away (not sure if he is going to return) and Fr Weaver (from Walsingham) is attending the church. If Fr Langley (Gerry) does not return what will happen, will the presbytery be sold? Fr Langley's two sisters are "holding the fort". Committee meeting on 14th April.
manuscript note: "Rang Mr Cozens-Hardy - 14.4.88 - what are the future plans?
