Part of Church of the Annunciation Parish, Walsingham

Chatty letter about the misery of wet weather at this time of the year. Thought the pastoral letter too long. Recalls being a child in the second World War (fear at nights, doodlebugs, land mines, incendiary bombs). Describes the help of Canon William Sayers when "Star of the Sea" had its problems. Not yet been able to meet the Celanese priest who is writing a book at Burnham Market.

Mrs. Marigold VF Quihampton (EA Branch President) writing. Noting that from 1999 groups will no longer be allowed to hold special masses on a Sunday in St John's Cathedral. CWL holds the AGM on alternate Saturdays and Sundays every year in SJB. The Pope has asked that special masses for groups not be held on Sundays to avoid disrupting parish life. This is advice and is open to the incumbent Bishop's interpretation. The Norwich Section CWL is the oldest in the country, founded in 1912, and through its own resources has little impact on the Cathedral except for its use once a year. Hope to solve this problem with the Bishop's help.

Part of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and St Edmund Parish, Hunstanton

Notes on the meeting with a few paragraphs at the end of personal observations.
Questions about the disposition of the residue of Miss Insley's will - some should fund a priest in Dersingham; FR Michael Rear is giving great spiritual guidance; discussion about actions of Fr Dobson and scale of support for him; concern over the Mass being stopped - parishioners rejected, hurt, isolated; concern that Fr Dobson had not been given guidance himself as to expectations in this country after so long in Africa; appreciated that Fr Shryane was there to listen and represent the Bishop.
Own comments: breakdown of communication; unsure where the truth lies; meeting to be held at St George's in Norwich
[Notes were written for the Bishop - "you have a visitation there sometime in the autumn"]

Fr Caulfield asked him to write to the Bishop regarding lack of progress on development plans for St Michael's. Need for diocesan representatives to show more urgency and priority for Huntingdon project. Also, the sale of the Good Shepherd has taken over three years to negotiate but lacking in information.

He had been planning a formal presentation to the HCC in the New Year. Rossi had suggested Chapel Studio and Vivienne Haig (could not contact her) , he explains why. Thinks the Webb window rather anaemic. A view of the new windows central panel being bare is contrasted with Michael Angelo's Creation of Adam in which the (not) meeting of two hands provides the centre for the rest. Why is standard symbolism considered "banal"? All medieval art uses this. He examines the issues associated with relocating the Webb window. Then comments on the suggestion for, and type of, protection for the windows. Copied in Mgr McBride and the Bishop
