Mrs Bramley is kind-hearted, etc. she did discuss the letter with the Abbot but also added other parts not seen until the Bishop copied her letter to him. He was delighted not to be governor and will talk to her. On way to Mass at Gillingham; his health has its ups and downs.

How to solve the problem of people gaining access to a school like Notre Dame by claiming to be Catholic but never setting foot inside a church. They are being subsidised by our parish.
Writing from Manor House, Mells, Nr Frome Selwood, Somerset, whilst on holiday. Asks for a word with the bishop about advice and our schools. Could do this over a meal - provides his diary for the next few days.
Watkin, Aelred Rev MA FSA FRSA FRHistS (1918-1997)Accepts the Bishops offer to be a Governor of Notre Dame School - it's a while since he last did this sort of work at Farnham Royal First & Middle schools. His present trouble leaves him unwell and limited in performing his duties. The doctor thinks the Hepatitis should have cleared up and Fr Brown is waiting for an appointment for X-rays & scans. He knows he will be happy in Wymondham but feels sorry for the people as they must think they have another invalid.
Brown, Peter RevSuggested programme for visitation on 5 May: mass at Gillingham, breakfast with the nuns, confirmation mass in Beccles, meeting parishioners, Convent for lunch, rest, visit sick, tea, music group meeting, mass, supper in Children's home. Very welcome to stay Sunday night. "I look forward so much to your coming, It is often rather lonely here after the hustle and bustle of Downside."
Fr Tom Murray inspected the Parish this afternoon.
Healthy financially - £7,000 dicesan savings and £2,000 in a deposit account, no large bills outstanding. Talking about enlarging the school; need £3,500 as our share of the chared church at Fairstead. Suicide of the Hon. Mrs Rosemary Dawnay.
Hammond, Leo Andrew Rev (1913-1999)Local Authority may be disposing of land - Fr Wilson suggested we let Phelan & Agutter (Mr Chris Toller) handle an approach to them. Possible site at Reffley estate. Also, a site next to St Martha's School. Explains the need for a new church as there are 700 attending Sunday mass and those at St Martha's Hall are feeling left out. Fr Wilson suggests the cost may be £250,000 and we've only £80,000.
Hammond, Leo Andrew Rev (1913-1999)Discusses the provision in Miss Carter's will for the chapel at Kimbolton. Teaches catechism at Kimbolton school. Option on using the Village Institute for Saturday evening mass. St Vincent de Paul provide transport for some old people. Fr Weech and Fr Howlin have discussed the new arrangements for Gamlingay. St Neots remains "mobile" - over 100 families have come and gone since 1964. 11 left last year at a loss of 4 altar servers. Catechism is taught by him at three schools and the head teachers are most helpful
Howlin, Laurence F, RevFr Reid offers an rationale as to why he was absent at the Finance meeting and having not provided an explanation at the time. He does not wish to be ungracious. Too much on: parish work, Province work, Ecumenical meetings (2-3 per week in Yarmouth!), 4 Mass centres, 3 schools, Parish administration and demands of the Order. So he missed recording the meeting's date. Sounds feeble but his health dictates somewhat - as an ME sufferer, and the diet is Lenten all the time. Also the departure of Denis Condon from here and subsequently from religious life and the exercise of priesthood - told Fr James at the time.
Reid, John Rev OSAPlanned to commission 15 lay ministers on Sunday November 3 [1991]. Unaware of the chain of command which needed to be informed - Bishop - VG - Dean (Fr Tom Murray). The course finishes the day before at Clare Priory. Thanks for AP forms signed for Josephine Bales; in role from end of October. Has identified two recently retired ladies as potential Auditors for the Tribunal. Tomorrow will be interviewing for the Head's post at St Mary's Junior School - 4 good applicants.
Reid, John Rev OSAdona feventes [bringing gifts] - only have to ask and Fr Watkin would bring a nice bottle of wine.
"... I was interrupted by a young sodomite suffering from AIDS, poor creature. I am inclined to the view that miseries one has brought on oneself are worse than other inflictions."

Taking the Bishop to task over matters relating to Catholic education. Reprises her role as a governor for St Edmund's School and her long association with Catholic schools in the area.
