The Bishop wants to help reconciliation with the Church. Being near death and wishing this is not moral cowardice; this frame of mind is helpful even though there is grief and sadness. The Bishop summarises the situation, indicates that the way back can be made easier, and promises to contact the Parish Priest.

Following a meeting with Chris Toller and Brendan, Fr Drury expresses concern over Brendon's state of mind - still in a mixed up state. He needs help; Fr Drury happy to explain further; does not like writing so about a friend but he must say something because no-one else will.

Fr Drury, "within weeks of moving to St Ives", sets out the case for increased accommodation at Mass, etc. Parish Council agrees. St Ives is scheduled to grow in population. Mass currently has 35-50 people standing regularly. Sunday School has 60 children between 5 to 10 - have to meet in the Church. Plan enclosed to Bishop's consideration. Architect, a parishioner, Julian Limentani, willing to give services of his firm and himself for free. He has supervised recent work on church roof.
Peter Wilson and Fr Drury have discussed that matter and consider that the project of £30,000 is possible financially. Notes that Bishop may think this clashes with the Cathedral Appeal but parish has agreed to give £500 to the appeal annually.
manuscript annotation in red ink: "Deeds out at Council (Feb)".

Fr Kerby forgot to tell the Bishop that he is away on a course for Officiating Army Chaplains from 13 to 16 June. So, if the Bishop wishes to speak to him given that he is away and the Ansapohne is being repaired, he should speak to Rev Gardner. The Bishop may wish to make alterations to Fr Kerby's programme.

70+ lady wishes to be absolved and to receive Holy Communion - this Fr Kerby has done in view of "gnadenreiche Zeit" of Christmas. He hopes he has done right in the light of an earlier approval by the Bishop for a similar situation. Fr Kerby asks whether he is right that we are authorised to absolve abortion since it is no longer one of the reserved sins in the New Code. Jonathan Salt's diaconate ordination in Innsbruck, where the ordination will be in Cambridge. Fr Kerby has booked the St Ives Corn Exchange as Salt requested for the reception (on 20 July).

Fr Kerby acknowledges the Bishop's permission to give a non-Catholic bride Holy Communion. However, her appreciation is that this is a solemn act but that the bread remains bread and is representative. In the light of this Fr Kerby says that the bride is content to receive "holy communion" from her father (a vicar) whilst the bridegroom receives Holy Communion from Fr Kerby. He awaits the Bishop's decision.
On the Bishop's Visitation at the end of May, will he confirm a few youngsters at Papworth and Willingham as well as at St Ives? It would be an encouragement to both small congregations.

Parishioners (Murphys at Somersham) were impressed with your letter on inter-communion. Whilst the Bishop said that Mrs Murphy could approach the altar on occasions, Fr Kerby is puzzled that he can find no references or law on this practice. Fr Kerby would be interested to know how the Church's law ties up with the need for Compassion. Fr Kerby does not wish t deny Holy Communion to those who are right with it, and is interested to understand the "logic" of it.
