Sorry comfort in the words of Our Lady to Bernadette .. "she did not have to convince the hierarchy, she just had to give them the message and stick by its authenticity." We cannot convince Fr Kerby that his concept of ministry is out of kilter: but we can go on telling him. Bishop refers to Fr John (Drury?) being told that he lacks steel; sure that he is now making up for it in Talara. But is the congregation at St Ives too complacent? Bishop irritated that John Gardner is under employed.

the article mentions: Rev Geoffrey Cook, Rev John Gardner, Mgr. McBride, Mgr Wace.
Re ordination of John Gardner to Diaconate: Bishop requires testimonials from Fr Philpot & Fr Rogers. If time is right for John, then Bishop can come on Friday 16 July 1982.
Re 50th anniversary of Papworth Church, 18 June 1982 is out for the Bishop but perhaps the Chancellor can stand in for him?
Fides Ordinum to testify John Gardner ordained to Diaconate on16 July 1982 at St Ives and is authorised to exercise full ministry in Diocese of East Anglia from that date.

Drury, John Patrick Rev (-2011)Fr Drury has been accepted for missionary work in South America. He asks the Bishop to give him the Mission Cross at mass in St Ives. Also, perhaps, to admit John Gardner to Permanent Diaconate. Asking for a date of release to enable a language course to be booked in Bolivia. Thanks the Bishop for this great act of faith in him.
Drury, John Patrick Rev (-2011)Fr Kerby forgot to tell the Bishop that he is away on a course for Officiating Army Chaplains from 13 to 16 June. So, if the Bishop wishes to speak to him given that he is away and the Ansapohne is being repaired, he should speak to Rev Gardner. The Bishop may wish to make alterations to Fr Kerby's programme.
Kerby, Raymond Rev (?-2009)Deacon J Gardner's death has brought sympathy from the Bishop. Fr j Drury is able to come for the funeral. Fr Kerby says Deacon Gardner was loved by many people and will be greatly missed. Fr Kerby looks forward to the ordination of the new Deacon, Terry McCarthy and that of John Salt much sooner.
H U von Balthasar is to become a Cardinal - mention of his (heavy) writings - excellent stuff but hard work.
Re ordination of John Gardner to Diaconate: instructors Fr Philpot & Fr Rogers happy with progress, Fr Kerby happy with his diligence and service during 7 months at parish.
Suggest ordination on Friday 16 July 1982, the feast of Our Lady of Mt Carmel.
